The L-H Lion's Roar
March 9 2025, vol. 14
Dear Lincoln-Hubbard Families,
As the first signs of spring begin to peek through (finally), I extend a warm welcome to the month of March! This is a time of renewed energy and growth, both in nature and in our classrooms. We are still celebrating the wonderful success of Read Across America Week, where students enthusiastically embraced the joy of reading through engaging activities and stories. The enthusiasm for literacy we saw during that week was truly inspiring.
Looking ahead, we have a busy and exciting month planned, filled with engaging learning experiences. In March, we've organized several enriching assemblies designed to broaden our students' horizons, the first of which took place last Thursday, welcoming Project Trio, a NY based chamber music ensemble who have performed at school assemblies, conducted workshops and master classes for over 50,000 students around the world. Their versatility bridges many styles including classical music, jazz, hip hop, rock, and Americana. Students had a great time hearing them perform. They also ran clinics for our 5th grade band and orchestra students.
Beyond that, the Harlem Wizards will visit LH, as well as Bash the Trash, another performance ensemble. Bash the Trash performers build, perform and educate with musical instruments made from reused and repurposed materials. They combine science, music and environmental awareness through performances, programs and social initiatives, always focusing on how art and science work together. The performers use amazing musical instruments created from trash to make connections to science, music and sustainability - it's STEAM in action! There will be more to come later in the month! We look forward to partnering with you to make March a successful and memorable month for your children, filled with discovery and growth.

Read Across America Week
Read Across America Week is a nationwide initiative that celebrates and encourages reading. Primarily observed the first week of March, it aims to inspire a love of reading in children and young adults, emphasizing the importance of reading for education and lifelong learning. It coincides with the birthday of beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss, on March 2nd. Our LH community participated in various reading-related activities, all with the overall theme of celebrating a love of reading. During the week, our Read Across America committee, spearheaded by our Media Specialist, Mrs. Stubeck, hosted special reading events such as DEAR (drop everything and read), invited guest readers, and organized book-themed activities such as our Vocabulary Parade. A great time was had by all!
Fun News from LH Cares
Second grade pride collected supplies, decorated bags and packaged 227 (surpassing their goal of 75) non-perishable lunches, which were sent along to Bridges to help aid the homeless in our community and surrounding areas.
Each second grade student learned about the organization through an information session earlier this month, decorated brown paper bags with encouraging messages and cheerful drawings & finally, bundled up the items into healthy packages. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!
Notes from the Nurse
If you have any medical questions or concerns never hesitate to reach out to our school nurse, Mrs. Diakos. Her email is kdiakos@summit.k12.nj.us. You can also visit the Summit Public Schools Virtual Health Office for additional information.
Music in Our Schools Month
The purpose of Music in Our Schools Month is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children—and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for educators to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the value that school music brings to students of all ages.
We thank our LH music educators, Mrs. Schoderbek, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Giannone, and Mr. Weinberger, for their work in this month and every month. We hope our students become music makers and music consumers who share music with their families and communities in varied and authentic ways. Thank you for supporting music and the arts here at LH. We inspire you to find ways to be musical this month. Join us in celebrating the universal language that enriches lives and shapes futures!
Public Safety Announcement
- Please do not stop directly in front of the school anywhere on Woodland Ave (on the school side)
- For pickup and drop-off, please avoid double parking on Crescent Ave - pull all the way down to the LH staff member to assist in letting out your child curbside. It had improved. Now its becoming problematic again. PLEASE, for everyone's safety, do NOT double park.
- In the AM, please, please, please PULL ALL THE WAY FORWARD to our LH staff member to release your child. It REALLY IS faster and safer. We have had a few "almost moments" where cars have nearly collided.
- Remind your students to use sidewalks and crosswalks at all times.
- Request to all parents/guardians picking up/dropping off on Lower Crescent - please do not permit your children or their siblings to walk on the retaining wall by the 1st grade entrance doors. The wall is high enough that should someone fall, they could get hurt. Lower Crescent doors will close promptly at 8:15 am. If the doors are closed, students will have to be dropped off by parent/guardian at our main entrance.
- Additional traffic information can be found here.
It would helpful if you could share this information with any caregivers who drop off or pick up your children as well.
Staff Parking Lot
Please refrain from using the staff parking lot for any AM or PM drop-offs or pickups. Staff are coming and going, especially our custodians and maintenance staff. Consequently, for safety reasons, students are only to exit through the staff manned doors, including the main entrance, Upper Crescent and Lower Crescent. Thank you.
Please share this information with any caregivers who drop off or pick up your children as well.
