Daniel Wright Junior High School
Preventure Program
Dear Families of Eighth-Graders,
We are excited to offer the Preventure program to eighth-grade students at Daniel Wright Junior High School. The PreVenture program is provided to us by our local Stand Strong Coalition and the Stevenson High School Catalyst drug/alcohol prevention program.
PreVenture was originally developed and tested by Dr. Patricia Conrod, a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Montreal, as a program for helping at-risk youth. Tested around the world, the PreVenture program has shown significant results with regard to reducing risky behavior and helping young people to make better short and long term decisions. PreVenture provides your child with motivational pathways and techniques that not only help them to understand their choices but also promote mental well-being and health.
Students will complete the 5-minute screener during FLEX on Monday, March 4. The survey identifies program eligible students and their unique personality profiles. Eligible students may participate in four confidential, 45-minute group workshops (the week of 03/18/24 and 04/-1/24) to help them understand the connection between their personality and their behaviors, as well as a healthy decision-making framework that is aligned with state educational standards in Physical Education and Health, and Social Emotional Learning. These group workshops will be co-facilitated by our Daniel Wright social workers, Rachael Graham and Samantha Blue, and Omni Youth Prevention Specialists.
This data-driven, evidence-based program will assist in preparing your child for the transition to Adlai E. Stevenson High School and will maximize your child’s future potential. If you would like to learn more, please visit the PreVenture For Parents website. If you have any questions or do not want your child to participate in the PreVenture survey, please email Samantha Blue at sblue@d103.org or fill out the PreVenture opt out form and return it to a school counselor no later than Friday, March 1.
Warm regards,
Dr. Susan Baker, Assistant Principal
Samantha Blue, School Counselor
Rachael Graham, School Social Worker
