This month we have had many more absences than is typical for November at LHS. We need your help to wrap up 2024 and have your students attend every day that remains this year; it will be 2025 before we know it! Attending school every day is not only about learning the curriculum but also about helping our students learn the social skills and problem-solving skills they will need when they graduate. There are 10 days in the school building before we count down to the new year, so finish strong Raiders!
Let's celebrate the upcoming holiday season with a holiday spirit week!
Student vs. Staff Basketball Game
On December 20, we will kick off the winter break with our student vs. staff basketball game during 7th and 8th periods! All students with zero ISI/suspension days during December are invited to check it out! Admission is two STRONG bucks or $1.00. See you there!
Need tutoring?
Students interested in receiving tutoring should fill out this student interest form. Currently, tutoring is offered before or after school at LHS (by appointment). We also offer virtual tutoring (by appointment). Please email Theresa Smith at tmsmith@smcps.org for more information.
Keeping Our School Safe & Clean
Unfortunately, due to recent incidents of vandalism and graffiti, we have been left with no choice but to temporarily close some of the bathrooms in the buidling. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our school community. Until further notice, the restrooms in the 1F and 2F sections, as well as the C section will be closed in the morning (7:50AM-8AM) and during lunch (12:07PM-1:07PM). You are to use the restrooms in the 1E and 2E sections during these times.
We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, and we apologize for any disruption this may cause to your daily routine. However, we must take these incidents seriously and take necessary actions to prevent them from happening again in the future.
If you are a witness to any of these incidents, please report it to a teacher, counselor, or school administrator. We appreciate all of you that continue to be Raider STRONG every day!
Advanced Placement Bronze Award!
Schools that received the Bronze Award had to meet the following criteria:
College Culture--40% or more of the graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
College Credit--25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
College Optimization--2% or more of the graduating cohort took 5 or more AP Exams during high school. At least 1 of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th grade, so that students are spreading their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any single year.
Christmas Trees for Hospice!
Coach Cunningham and members of our Football Team helped put together Christmas trees at the Southern MD High Ed Center. The trees will be auctioned off to benefit Hospice.
CSM Health Science Field Trip!
LHS Students had the opportunity to visit and tour the CMS Health Science Building in Hughesville with Ms. Nagelvoort. Students were able to participate in a multitude of exciting clinical simulator's. From an ambulance walk-through, seeing dummies specifically programmed to give birth, exploring a specimen processing lab, and even seeing dummy limbs and other body parts that contained real fluids, safe to say we had a blast! Not to mention the free donuts at the end...
Stay tuned for a future field trip to the CSM Tech center to explore the trades! (Advertisements pending)

Reminder for Parents/Guardians - Student Drop Off
Parents who are dropping students off at school in the morning should use the parking lot lane closest to the building. Please do not park in in a space and wait to drop your student off. Unfortunately, parking is very limited for both students and staff. Utilizing extra parking spaces for this purpose can create an issue where there is nowhere for staff or student drivers to park. Additionally, please do not drive down the middle parking lot lane in order to drop a student at school. We appreciate your help!
