Discovery School first opened in 2015 and since this time, we have grown to approximately 560 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Our success at Discovery School is due to the amazing students, staff, and families who are part of our family. Our teachers truly care for our students and teach in ways that make learning meaningful and purposeful for our students. Our PTO is very active in supporting a variety of initiatives at Discovery School with a family Color Run, a family dance, family bingo night, and support for numerous school field trips for all students.

We are proud to be a part of a school culture that supports innovation, collaboration, and risk-taking. Our mission statement sums up our beliefs best: “Everyone’s a learner, everyone’s a teacher and everyone’s a trailblazer blazing the trail to greatness”.

2024-2025 PowerSchool Account Registration Update

Each student's 24/25 school year registration must be updated in PowerSchool. This must be completed before their first day of school!

How do I get started?

If you have not already done so, please create a PowerSchool Account that links all your school-age children to the same account. If you need the information to set up your account, please contact the school office.

Visit https://grand-forks.ps.state.nd.us/public/ and log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal. From the Parent Portal:

1. Select the student you wish to update registration for at the top of the page.

2. Click Enrollment/Registration (24-25) on the left side of the screen.

3. Enter the required information on each page and select "Next" at the bottom.

4. Click Submit when complete!

School Day:

Arrival Bell: 8:20 am

Tardy Bell: 8:25 am

Dismissal Bell: 3:00 pm

Arrival:

Students utilizing the breakfast program may enter door #7 between 7:40-8:20am. Students not eating breakfast at Discovery will wait outside their designated grade level door for the 8:20am bell. Staff will provide supervision at each door from 8:10 to 8:25. If you arrive after the tardy bell at 8:25am, please check in with the office team at door #1. Contingency plans will be made in the event of inclement weather.

Dismissal:

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority for us at Discovery. As per district policy, schools will have parents meet their child(ren) at a designated location outside the school at dismissal time. Older siblings will go to the youngest sibling’s assigned door so parents can pick up all children in the same location.

Checking out your child(ren) during the day:

If you are taking your child out of school early for any reason, please call the school office and let the office team know the time you plan to pick up. Please walk up to door #1 and push the doorbell to communicate with the school secretaries and check out your child.

Absences & late check in:

If your child is absent or late, please call the attendance line by 8:30 am to leave a message. Communication between home and school ensures students’ safety!

Grand Forks Public Schools currently holds a service contract with Valley Bus for providing transportation services across the district.

• Complete registration within PowerSchool

• Our Bussing Team will create a bus route based on those who register

• Bus route and times will be shared in August

The Child Nutrition Program looks forward to serving meals to your child/children during the school year. We serve breakfast and lunch at all schools and after school snacks at most elementary schools. The meals meet and exceed the nutritional requirements for your child's age group.

If your child has a food allergy, please fill out a Meal Modification form (found in the office or with our school nurse) so we can make adjustments to meals at school.
