The trophies are just wood and metal...but the performances at the UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest were priceless artistic expression. Congratulations to the Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony this past week at UIL. Your directors, parents, administrators and community are so proud of you...however, the most pride in this should come from you and your fellow musicians.

The Band Gala is a long standing tradition in TWB. EVERYONE attends. Normally it is free for all members; however, we did not have any fundraising this year, so there is a $10 cost for this year only.

• Cost: $10 per person (if you can't afford this, please see Mr. Dixon...he's got you covered)
• Can you invite someone not in band? - YES, they just can't be ugly.
• Attire: Groovy Informal or Chic Casual (both of these are made up terms so don't ask). You can wear anything from a tuxedo down to Hawaiian shirts. Just have fun with it.

Rehearsals with your accompanist start this week for the May 1st Solo Festival at Wylie HS. Click the link below for the accompaniment rehearsal times. You wrote these down in class last week. Here are some reminders on how to get the best out of this time together.

• KNOW YOUR MUSIC and practice it with a metronome. Your accompanist is a PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN who has one or two degrees in music. Go into your rehearsal prepared so you don't look foolish and waste time.
• Bring your accompanist their accompaniment fee of $50 to your first rehearsal. This pays for two rehearsals and the performance. Remember, this is how they pay their bills...this is their job.
• Remember your rehearsal time and arrive at the rehearsal room 5 minutes before your rehearsal.
• Last thing....be musical! Take musical risks in order to make the music sound alive. Remember, there is no boring music...just boring musicians!

TWB members and parents,

To make the marching show as impactful as possible next year, we need to recruit another 15-20 members, giving us the biggest guard we have ever had (@50). THIS WILL BE HUGE. If you know of anyone you want to travel with or would you think would enjoy the performance aspect of performing for huge crowds (can't wait for next year) have them get in touch with Mr. Dixon or Mr. Jackson.

If they have any dance experience or gymnastic experience, that is awesome; however, it is not a prerequisite.

This will take all of us to reach out and recruit for the show "BELLS"....this thing is going to be off the charts!

We need someone to haul a band trailer to Olde City Park on Tuesday, April 27th at 3:30 PM and then haul it back to school at around 7:30 PM that same evening. Email stephen.lisko@wylieisd.net if you can volunteer to do that for us. Thanks in advance!

Wylie ISD has approved the school calendar for 2021-22. This includes a fall break; however, all athletic and fine arts contests, rehearsals and productions will still run during that week. Meaning, even though WISD has a fall break scheduled, there will still be a football game and contests. This means there will be rehearsals too. Below is our plan for that week, so if you are looking to go away some time, here are the dates we will have games, rehearsals and contests.
