The Lady Jaguar Basketball Teams competed in a bi district tournament on Saturday 11/16. Out of 12 games played by our Lady Jags, 9 of them were victories! Way to represent!
The 7A team had a strong showing at the tournament, going 2-1 across the three games. The defense was led by the tenacious Serenity Jenkins and the opportunistic Zoya Shallwani. The offensive players of the weekend were Raina Rahhal and Venya Hariramani, who both played with a calm, collected presence that carried the Jags to victory.
The 7B team had a clean sweep in the tournament, taking home 3 wins with a total of 92 points scored! The girls showed their ability to switch from a man defense to a zone at the drop of a hat. They read passes well, communicated clearly with each other, and played hard until the final buzzer! Although there was remarkable speed, agility, and follow through form all players, Nysa Pratap deserves a huge shout out for scoring a total of 20 points for her team throughout the day and Cate Day for her fast movements, amazing stops, and another 10 points towards her team's scoreboard. Leila Punwasi and Vy Do for their outstanding offensive grit by getting another 10 points each for us and countless rebounds to help us remain in control.
The 8A team played well in all games winning two and losing one. All players played well but standouts in the games were Zuri Hunter, Ishika Ranjani, Ava Ford, Emma Chong (who made a half court shot at the buzzer), and Makenzi Chen. All girls played with a lot of hustle, grit, and determination. All girls played to the best of their abilities with great efforts on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball.
The 8B team had an awesome tournament this weekend! The team went 2-1 and never let up. We started the day with a hard fight against First Colony, and although we came short, the team showed unrelenting defense keeping us in the game. The next two games were full of some great basketball. I saw true teamwork as we ran plays, moved around the court, and made great passes. The team stayed composed and resilient against aggressive opponents, playing smart, fundamental basketball to secure dominant wins in both games by over 20 points! I received several compliments form refs, opponents' parents, and bookkeepers on how much fun it was to watch our team work together and fight for every ball. So proud!!!
