Create a "Practice Sandwich"
1. Start with something easier for you (easy songs, warm-ups, mouthpiece only)
2. Work on the filling or the "hard stuff" - remember to slow it down, chunk it, and repetition
3. End with something fun & easy

6th Grade:
- Walking up the Steps (first 5 notes)
- Tradition of Excellence Packet #7 & 9 (if that's too easy.. try #10 & 12)
7th Grade:
- Foundation Warm-Ups #2 (if that's easy.. try #4!)
- Songs: Embark, Dragon Lord & Shout it Out (themes sheet)
8th Grade:
- Foundation Warm-Ups #6
- Songs: Celtic Air & Dance, Whirlwind, Fragile & Shout it Out (themes sheet)
GREAT JOB with the first week of lessons. We saw almost every student this week. If you missed for any reason - no problem, check with your lesson teacher to find a make-up time.

When do they occur?
Students are schedule at a time that works for them during WIN time or during a class's individual work time. Teachers work together to find a time best for reach student. Lessons can also happen after school - be in touch so we can find the best time for every student.

Instrument Rental Fees
Students using a school-owned instrument should now see a $50 yearly fee in their Infinite Campus account.
*Percussion fee is $25/year
6th Grade - Shirt Fee
- All new students to music (Band, Choir, & Orchestra) will see a $22 shirt fee in Infinite Campus.
- These shirts are our uniforms for all music classes for concerts (required)
- Once students outgrow their shirt, they can trade it in for a larger size
In the past, many students and families have found value in taking private lessons with amazing professionals on their instrument. Good news - those teachers come right to Central Heights after school on Tuesdays 4:00 -8:00 PM!

Central Heights Jazz begins on October 15th. It's open to any music students in 7th & 8th Grade.
Jazz Bands will rehearse:
- Two mornings/week from 7:30 - 8:15am on Tuesday & Thursday mornings.
- Rehearsals begin Tuesday 10/15 and we will end likely end of April.
- There will be no rehearsals Dec. 17 & 19
There will also be a handful of performances possibly including and limited to:
- Central Heights Family Night, Wednesday January 31st
- Sun Prairie Middle School Jazz Festival, Friday March 1st
- Other TBD (school & community events)
8th Graders: If you sell 6 books - you will raise enough money to pay for Kalahari field trip in May!
