Superintendent's Newsletter
June 2024
Message from the Superintendent
It is my pleasure to present the June edition of the Lower Moreland Township School District Superintendent’s Newsletter. I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and well. This is the last edition for the 2023-24 school year.
As the school year comes to a close, our buildings are a whirlwind of activities that culminate this week and next with commencement and promotion ceremonies celebrating the achievements of our graduating 2024 senior class as well as the promotion of our 8th graders. I sincerely thank all stakeholders for your support in our combined efforts toward student success during the 2023-2024 school year. Understandably, there were both challenging and rewarding moments throughout this school year. However, the flexibility and resolve shown by all are to be commended. Many thanks go out to our staff for everyone’s continued efforts throughout the school year.
Earlier this spring, the Board of School Directors approved the 2024-2025 school calendar. Please be reminded that the first student day of school in the 2024-2025 school year will be Tuesday, September 3. The District looks forward to welcoming students and families back after the Labor Day holiday. However, we also encourage everyone to disconnect, unwind and enjoy the summer months by spending time with loved ones and friends.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
Scott Davidheiser, Ed.D.

Student Representatives to the Board of School Directors
Hello, Lower Moreland Community! We, the Student Representatives [Mia Dubin and Edona Selamaj], are excited to share with you the latest progress and updates regarding the School Climate at Pine Road, Murray Avenue, and Lower Moreland High School.
At Pine Road, students participated in their annual Field Day! Students were divided into blue and gold teams where they competed in a day’s worth of games such as relay races and cup-stacking competitions. At the end of the day, everyone joined back together and closed field day out with grade-wide dance parties! Field day is an essential part of Pine Road, so it is always nice when the day is a fun, laughter-filled success!
At Murray Avenue, students who participate in Band, Orchestra, and Chorius made their way over to Dorney Park where they performed their musical pieces! Afterwards, students had the opportunity to ride the exhilarating rides, eat the fun food, and hang out with their friends! The Field Trip is a great way for students to express their musical passions and talents!
At Lower Moreland High School, students who also participate in Band, Orchestra, and Choir were able to go on a four-day trip to Boston and New York City. There, students got to see the musical capitals, Broadway shows, and even climbed up to the top of the Empire State Building. According to several high school students, this trip was worth-while and truly a memorable experience!
Also, we recently held our Student Representative Election. We are pleased to announce that after a very close election, we will be returning as the 2024-2025 Student Representatives. It was so nice to see so many student leaders show interest in this very special role! We are very excited to work with board members again, as well!
Finally, we wanted to express our thanks to Dr. Davidheiser one more time. The position of Student Representative has flourished under his guidance, and we are forever grateful for his hardwork and dedication to bettering our schools. His compassion and unwavering support are unparalleled, and we will undoubtedly miss his presence on the school board. So, thank you for everything, Dr. Davidheiser!

Thanks to Act 1, the Pennsylvania Taxpayer Relief Act, Lower Moreland Township School
District residents will be receiving a reduction in their 2024-25 school tax bill. Through a
provision of the law, school districts throughout the state will be receiving revenue generated
by legalized gambling as well as Sterling Tax revenue (the sum of (1) resident wages earned
within City of Philadelphia and (2) wages earned outside of Philadelphia but not taxed by the
school district because of application of the Philadelphia wage tax credit) and this revenue will
be used to lower residents’ property taxes.
The property tax reduction will come in the form of a reduction in property’s assessed taxable
value, not in the form of a rebate check. When residents receive the tax bills in July, they may
notice additional information on their bill noting an assessment reduction
(homestead/farmstead exclusion) which equates to a specific reduction in the overall tax
bill. Original assessed value totals and original tax liability information will also be noted on the
bill.
It is important to note that residents are only eligible for the property tax reduction if they have
filed the appropriate homestead/farmstead exclusion form and have been approved for the
exclusion by the county’s assessor’s office. The assessment reduction and net overall reduction
on the tax bill will be the same for all approved homeowners. In 2023/24, the amount of
revenue received helped to reduce eligible taxpayer’s tax burden by $511. The projection for
2024/25 is $572. This increase is the result of more Sterling Tax revenue received this year
versus the previous year.
If you did not file this form, you will not be eligible for this year’s property tax reduction. To
become eligible next year, please be sure to complete a homestead/farmstead exclusion
form. Homeowners who are not approved from the previous year are sent a notification by the
County by the end of December of the previous tax year to sign up for the next year. To obtain
a form, visit the assessment department on the Montgomery County website
(www.montcopa.org) and download the form.
Homestead/Farmstead applications are due by March 1 of every year. Residents who acquire
property in the school district after March 1 must wait until the following year to qualify for the
exclusion. The county assessor must notify the property owner of the approval or denial of the
exclusion no later than 30 days after the applications receipt. Residents who have an
approved application on file for their current residence do not need to re-apply annually.

Curriculum and Instruction (Julien Drennan, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Prof. Dev.)
With the 23-24 school year behind us, building administration is busily preparing for the 24-25 school year! This summer will be full of moving, organizing, and refreshing as we look to open as a four building district in the fall. While it is hoped that staff, students, and families will find time to relax and rejuvenate, the best way to ensure that students return to school ready for their next learning challenge is to encourage them to read for pleasure during summer months. Summer reading inspiration can be found on each school's library webpage. Parents and guardians can find inspiration for supporting their readers with fun activities here. Best wishes for a wonderful summer filled with many adventures, including those you will find within the pages of a good book!

Community Engagement (Carla Pacitti, Supervisor of Curriculum and Community Engagement, ELD Supervisor)
This year, LMTSD introduced the distinction of Pennsylvania Seal of Biliteracy to recognize the linguistic achievements of its students. First awarded in Pennsylvania schools in 2022, the PASB is an honor given to students who have demonstrated an intermediate-high level of proficiency in English and one or more additional world languages by the time they graduate from high school. In addition to demonstrating language proficiency, students must also meet grade requirements in both their English and world language courses.
Lower Moreland’s first recipient of the PASB is Martinas Brusokas, who demonstrated proficiency in Lithuanian. Brusokas will wear a blue and gold cord noting his award at graduation and will have the honor recognized on his official transcript. Currently, seven other students at Lower Moreland are actively working toward attaining the Pennsylvania Seal of Biliteracy.
Interested students and families can read more about the requirements here. All high school students will be invited to attend an informational meeting in the fall.

The Pine Road Running Club, led by Mrs. Tickner and Mrs. Smith, ran a 1 mile fun run for the final run of the school year
Human Resources/Public Relations (Cheryl Galdo, Director of HR/PR)
Mrs. Kathy Krupa is retiring after 12 years with the district. She has been a staple at Pine Road, transforming young minds and leaving a lasting impact on countless students in her role as a Tech/STEM teacher. Her classroom was a creative space that gave students a sense of wonder and a chance to get hands-on experience with robotics, design, and engineering. Many future careers in the STEM field were likely sparked through her instruction.
The district gives Mrs. Krupa a big "thank you" for shaping young minds and enriching our school community and wishes her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.
Technology (Jason Hilt, Ed.D., Director of Technology)
The Technology Department supports information technology systems and instructional technology programs and practices in the district. Each month, we highlight how our students and teachers engage in 21st Century learning activities. We also share updates on new initiatives and tips and tricks related to devices and technology tools used in the district.
CultureGrams & Google Slides
In order to investigate their families' heritage, second grade students at Pine Road Elementary studied their ancestral countries. This research enabled them to compose a personalized postcard to a family member, where they shared one of the things they learned. The postcards contained images of the country's flag, typical cuisine, and popular games. A stamp of the country was also included. Following the printing process, the students were able to take their postcards home.
LionVoice Album
Led by Mr. Evan Weisblatt, students from Murray Avenue School’s LionVoice recorded their third studio album in the state-of-the-art Performance Lab at the new high school. LionVoice uses a variety of professional microphones and sound equipment to track its album like a set of SM7B dynamic microphones and sE2200 large diaphragm condenser microphones. The album is then produced and mastered using Logic Pro X. The album will feature songs sung by sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students and includes music from Ariana Grande, Stevie Nicks, and Whitney Houston. LionVoice obtains the rights to stream its music and then uses TuneCore to distribute the new album to all major music streaming platforms later this summer.
Student Services (Frank Giordano, Director of Special Education and Student Services)
As the school year winds down the Office of Student Services and Special Education would like to wish parents and students a safe and relaxing summer. We would also like to remind all parents of students with IEPs to continue to work with your child during the summer months to reinforce skills and help them prepare for next school year. If your child has been found eligible for Extended School Year, please take advantage of those services as they are provided to prevent regression in skills during extended breaks.
In order to assist with the reinforcement of fine motor skills for some of our younger students during the summer months our Occupational Therapist, Ms. Khalifa has provided the following list of activities you can do with your child to reinforce fine motor skills for some of our younger students:
Kindergarten and First Grade Summer Fun
Games: Operation, Kerplunk, Pop Up Pirate, Hi Ho Cheerio, Don't Spill the Beans, Sneaky Snaky Squirrel, Rush Hour Jr, Kanoodle, Mental Blox, Giggle Wiggle, Twister
Other Items: Puzzles (24+), Small Legos, Hidden picture books, Activity books/coloring books
Apps: Handwriting Without Tears, Dexteria Jr, iTrace, iWrite Words
Fun way to practice writing: Trace letters in the sand, sidewalk chalk, shaving cream, make letter “roads” for cars to drive on, fill a bag with hair gel for long car rides and the kids can practice their letters and site words, use magic paint (water and a paint brush) outside, build letters with rocks/sticks.
