Art
Art classes are going well! We have a third grade winner, Mary Kato, and a fourth grade winner, Matthew Oberlander for the Keep Nashville Beautiful Art Contest. These two winners will have their artwork photographed, enlarged, and placed on the Red River Waste Management trucks and be on display all over town from Dec. until May. The truck that has the Sylvan Park winners will also be at Sylvan park sometime in February. I will keep you posted. We are about half way finished with the tiles that will go on three stone and metal signs that will be constructed at the roundabout at 46th and Murphy. Thank you to Kimley/Horn for their including us in this this project and to Chelli Pittman and Stacey Cleghon for their help in this huge project. The art room can still use architecture, sports, and people magazines if anyone has any they don’t need. AS always if you ever have any questions or concerns about the art room please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thanks and blessings Mr. Green
Music
It’s hard to believe we are already into our second nine weeks! Here are just a few of the things we are working on in music until winter break. In kindergarten, we are working on identifying music as fast/slow and loud/soft, demonstrating high and low pitches, recognizing melody patterns that move upward and downward, and demonstrating fast, slow, loud, and soft. First grade is learning to interpret and perform iconic notation for one sound on a beat, two sounds on a beat, and no sound on a beat as well as recognizing and performing iconic notation for high and low sounds. They are also going to create a composition using sound/silence, long/short sounds, and high/low sounds. In second grade we are playing simple rhythms in duple meter, reading and performing traditional pitch and rhythm notation, and will create a composition using so and mi. Third grade is working on rhythmic and melodic ostinatos, experiencing simple and complex forms of music (AB, ABA, Rondo, etc), as well as singing pentatonic melodies with correct technique. Fourth grade is working on the Recorder Karate packet as well as singing partner songs and performing melodies with accurate pitch, rhythm, dynamics, and proper technique. All grade levels always discuss and demonstrate proper audience behavior and using musical terms correctly. The rest of this 9 weeks will be lots of fun!
Physical Education
Dear Parents,
Currently, we are finishing our soccer unit. This nine weeks our focus will be basketball. We will include dribbling skills; left and right hand, passing skills; chest, bounce, and overhead passes, shooting skills; BEEF, balance, eyes on target, elbow bent 90 degrees, follow through, catching, and throwing skills.
As always, safety of all of our students is most important to us. Please remind your children the necessity of following the physical education rules consistently. The rules are as follows:
1. Be safe. (Stop. Look and listen on whistle signal).
2. Be able to cooperate with others.
3. Be respectful to others and equipment.
4. Work hard.
5. Have fun.
Thank you for your support at home.

Spanish
Dear Parents,
The months of October, November, and December are busy in Spanish class. We have already examined El Día de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, and Sugar Skull Art of Mexico. All grades have continued to grow their counting and number skills in Spanish. In November and December, Kindergarten will study shapes and colors and then tie both together through the art of Spanish artist Joán Miró. First, second, third, and fourth grades will focus on vocabulary related to weather, seasons, likes, dislikes, and holiday foods. All classes will explore Spanish and Latin American Christmas traditions and cultural diversity in the Spanish-speaking countries. Fourth grade is also studying the Amazon Rainforest and all the amazing topics that it encompasses. Than you for your continued support and encouragement of Spanish at home. It shows!
