Back to School: FAQs
Each family will receive a door code via email a few days before the first day of school. Please do not let others in using your code. Security needs to vet every person entering our building.
Do I need a code to sign my child out and do I need my ID?
Each authorized pick-up person will be assigned a code and parents will receive this information via email a few days before the first day of school. All authorized persons allowed to pick-up must be able to present an ID at all times.
Where is the school supplies list located?
It is located on Parentsweb. This is the same platform you used to enroll your child and it will also be the way we will communicate information regarding assessments, weekly letters, calendar updates and such. If you have trouble navigating this platform, email renwebhelp@virginia-academy.com
Are there any supplies I need to bring besides school supplies?
Yes. You will need to bring an extra set of clothing and bedding.
What are the lunch options and when will I find out what is being offered?
The options are regular, semi-vegetarian and vegetarian. A week before back to school night, you will receive a welcome email from your child's teacher asking for your child's selection and other information. A monthly menu will be posted in the classroom and on the teacher's Parentsweb page.
Does my child need to be potty-trained in your 3-year-old program?
Yes, they do. See Resources for some strategies to help your child through this process.
Who is the aftercare staff and what is the programming?
They are primarily our teachers but we will have some staff that come in to provide additional support. We have 2 lead teachers that are taking on the coordinator role and will be sharing information regarding this program the first week of school.
STEAM RESOURCE LAB
We are so excited that our students not only receive STEAM lessons within their classrooms but they will be able to visit our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Resource lab 1-2 times a week to work on projects that will extend their learning of concepts taught in the classroom. Projects such as building bridges, pulleys, planting gardens, pendulum salt prints, building an aquarium, creating fossils, simple machines, learning Bird song patterns, etc. will enhance and deepen student's learning experiences.
The purpose for incorporating STEAM into our curriculum is to prepare our students for 21st Century careers and we feel starting young will help create in our students a love for and desire to learn.
STEAM concepts will build up skills in:
-Creativity
-Communications
-Critical Thinking/Problem Solving
-Teamwork/Collaboration
We are excited to see the creative learning that will be going on all around our preschool!

Back to School —Already?
Leaping for Literacy!
"Llama Llama Misses Mama", written by Anna Dewdney is a great book to read to your child regarding the first day of school and will help to bring up dialog that will ease your child's mind regarding this first day.
I would love to hear from you on what your child's favorite book is and the first email I receive, your child's name will be mentioned in my next newsletter.
Happy Reading!
