West Point El. Parent Update
Week of September 8, 2024
Dear West Point Families,
Happy Monday! Our fundraiser is here and officially launches today. Students will bring home a permission slip on Monday. Please sign and return to school if you would like your student to participate. We are also happy to accept monetary donations in the office for families who prefer to donate. Please see the information below for the many ways these funds will be used to benefit students and teachers.
Here are four things to know for the coming week.
- Please return the signed fundraiser permission slip on Tuesday if you would like to participate.
- Picture Day is this Thursday! Flyers have been sent home with your students.
- For students participating in STEM Club, please pick up your student at 4:20 in the bus loop on the south side of the school. Students will be waiting there.
- Our brag tags have begun! Please encourage your students to read at home and be at school each day so they can earn their September brag tags.
Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Assistant Principal, West Point Elementary

Weekly Principal Paw Award Recipients
Last week we celebrated our first group of Principal Paw Award recipients at our golden ears party. Congratulations to our students for going above and beyond to be safe, respectful, responsible, and caring!
School Fundraiser
Our World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser is here! Thank you for being such great supporters of our fundraisers. By limiting requests for donations for school supplies and field trips and by providing school t-shirts for all of our students, we hope we have made it easier for our families to support our school and our PTA fundraisers.
The money from this school fundraiser will be used to:
- purchase student rewards, incentives, classroom reward parties, brag tags, and enrichment opportunities (i.e., magician assembly, Sphero Indie robots for class reward parties, potentially a book vending machine if we raise enough funds) as part of our positive behavior plan
- support and show appreciation for our teachers
- provide additional resources for our school (i.e., recess equipment, specialized supplies for classrooms)
Experience the Magic
M is for MANNERS
Our new magical manner for the week is, "Keep Unkind Thoughts to Yourself." This manner reminds students to be careful with their words. 52 Modern Manners for Kids
Students have begun to earn their M this month in our MAGIC WPE LETTERing challenge. They are learning and practicing the importance of manners in creating an environment of respect, responsibility, safety, and caring.
Excellence Project
We will continue to include this information during September. We are hoping students will create a plan by the start of 2nd term.
Please help your student come up with an idea for an Excellence Project for the year. It could be something they want to learn more about or a skill they would like to get better at. The sky is the limit! We want every student to experience the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes from putting effort into learning something new. We have included information about the project below. We have designed it to be open ended so that it can be as simple or complex as you and your child would like it to be.

Reflections
It's that time of year for students to explore their creative, artistic side for our annual PTA Reflections Contest. We hope you will encourage your student to participate!
Mental Health Series for Parents
Our DSD Student Services Department has facilitated amazing supports for our parents this year. This year's Mental Health Series for Parents offers parents unlimited access to live monthly sessions and recordings, as well as key takeaways from each topic. Each session is led by expert facilitators, providing ongoing support whenever needed.
There is also an "Ask a Therapist" live webinar series. This month's Ask a Therapist will be on Wednesday, September 18 at 6:00 p.m. See below for additional information.
Save the Dates for October!
