RIVERSIDE ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER
APRIL 2024
SPRING IS HERE!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The school year is going by fast and we are now in our last quarter of the 2023-2024 school year. Third quarter report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, April 2 due to the school weather closing on March 26. We have a variety of fun events planned for this month and invite you and your family to join us!
This month the HS Key Club will be sponsoring PENNIES FOR PATIENTS to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We will have change jars in each of the classrooms during the first two weeks of April, and the classroom with the most money raised may win a prize from the Key Club!
Our Riverside PTO Carnival will be on Thursday, April 4 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and we will have inflatables again this year! A waiver/permission form will be sent home for parents to sign. This will cover your students being able to jump on the inflatables during their gym time as well as the carnival. Please be sure and print your child/s name clearly on the form when you sign it and return it to your classroom teacher.
On Thursday, April 25, we will have our Riverside Title I sponsored Family Fun Night from 5:00-7:00 p.m. There will be reading and math activities/games, as well as prizes and free food!
Our third grade students will be taking the MCAs/MTAS during the last two weeks of April. K-3 students will also be taking their spring grade level Fastbridge Reading and Math assessments beginning the last week of April. Please see the schedule below and contact us if you have any questions regarding testing.
During the testing window dates, it is important for students to get a good night's sleep, have breakfast, and be at school each day before 8:20 a.m.. Testing typically begins during the first few hours of the school day. If you have upcoming appointments for your students in April and May, please schedule those for after school if possible.
Go Huskies!

RIVERSIDE TESTING CALENDAR FOR APRIL AND MAY
Third Grade MCA or MTAS Reading: April 15-19
Third Grade MCA or MTAS Math: April 22-26
The MCA and MTAS assessments are based on the MN Academic standards. A majority of students at these grade levels take the MCA (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment). MTAS (Minnesota Test of Academic Skills) participation is limited to special education students who meet the eligibility requirements for the test. These state-wide assessments are one measure of how well students are doing on the content that is part of their daily instruction. Teachers and school staff use these results, along with other classroom indicators, to make curricular and instructional decisions to best support students' learning.
K-1 earlyReading and earlyMath: Last Week of April - Second Week of May
earlyReading and earlyMath assessments are administered for the purpose of screening student advancement in foundational reading and math concepts. The outcomes guide instructional strategies at the classroom level and pinpoint areas of growth for individual students. The assessment is administered one-on-one to students and requires 5-10 minutes per session.
2-3 - aReading and aMath: Last Week of April - Second Week of May
aReading and aMath are designed for screening and inform differentiated instruction for students at all achievement levels. These are computer-adaptive measures of reading and mathematical skills that are individualized for each student. These assessments are delivered in a group format in about 30 minutes each.

WAY TO GO HUSKIES!
STUDENT HUSKY PRIDE PUNCH CARDS TOTAL THIS YEAR: 884
We are so proud of our Riverside students and celebrate positive choices that they make on a daily basis! We want to make sure to share all the amazing things they do at school everyday! By demonstrating positive behaviors, and showing their Husky Pride, students learn they can help make Riverside a fun and safe place to learn.
Recognizing and praising positive behavior reinforces these actions. Celebrating even small achievements can boost a student's confidence and motivation. Additionally, maintaining consistent boundaries and consequences helps establish expectations and reinforces accountability. By working together, we can empower student to manage their emotions, resolve conflicts peacefully, and thrive academically and socially. Thank you for your continued partnership in promoting a safe and supportive learning environment for all our students.
