Spring Term - 23rd March 2023
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers
I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying the HJS & HISN choir to the Rose Theatre this week to watch them perform in the Richmond Singing Festival. Mrs Branch and Miss Mullins have done an exceptional job in preparing the children for this event, putting them through their paces during practise and I can honestly say it was the best choir performance I have ever seen. The children sang beautifully and were so loud that their lovely voices filled the auditorium. A huge well done and I am sure that many parents will agree they were fantastic! I'd also like to say a thank you to the parent volunteers that attended - the coach trip was not so pleasant due to traffic issues!
Next week, we will sadly say goodbye to Mrs Al-Hasso, who has been a valued member of the HJS teaching team for a number of years. She has taught every child in the school, and I know that the children love her interactive and inspiring French lessons - we will certainly miss the catchy French jingles and songs! Mrs Al-Hasso has accepted a job at another school where she will have the opportunity to work in both key stage 3 as well as key stage 2. They are very lucky to have her and we wish her all the best for the future.
In addition we will also say goodbye to Miss Smith. Miss Smith will be leaving at the end of the Spring Term to take up a position in a school much nearer home and her new role has an SEND focus which she is very much interested in. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Smith for all her work with 3S and HPP. Mr Robert Petts will be taking the class for the summer term and I would like to welcome him to HJS.
Also, remember the clock change this weekend!

Messages from the Office
Equipment Requirements at HJS
Please ensure over the half term you replenish items in your child's pencil case. Inkpot continues to run every Tuesday and Friday lunch times should your child wish to purchase their own stationery. See below for a full list of items your child will need on a daily basis.
Calendar of Events - Summer 2023
Please see attached a sheet of all upcoming dates for the summer term.
Lost Property
We continue to have a large amount of lost property in school despite making it more accessible to parents every day. Over the half term, please ensure all items are clearly named.
The office has had two pairs of glasses unclaimed for some time now. If these belong to your child please can you retrieve these from the front desk.
Water bottles/ snack /lunch boxes / after school items
There has been an improvement in the number of items being brought in late by parents - thank you for making sure your child has everything they need each day.
Please can you ensure your child comes to school with everything they need for the day (water bottle, lunch box, after school clubwear). The office are happy to pass on any item received into the office before 10am in the morning but after this time they will not be taken to the classroom and your child will need to collect them from the office which may be at the end of the day.
HJS Football News
On Monday, the HJS boys and girls football teams travelled to St James Catholic Primary School. It was an intense affair with both schools battling until the very end. The boys went 2-0 down at half time but brought it back in the second half. With St James scoring in the last kick of the game, it finished 4-2 to St James.
The girls found themselves up against a strong St James side. Despite this, they competed fantastically well throughout the game and worked hard as a team. The game ended 4-0 to St James.
A special mention to Romain for making his first appearance for HJS - hopefully the first of many!
HJS Orchestra
HJS orchestra had the opportunity to visit Halliford School and work with their Music Director, A Level teacher and two students in their recording studio. We rehearsed with them and then created recordings of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' and 'Oom Pah Pah'. The orchestra represented the school brilliantly well and the recordings sounded fantastic- we can't wait to receive the final product! The staff at Halliford were hugely impressed with the quality of performance from such a young orchestra. A huge well done to all children involved and thank you for your hard work.
