Flight Plan
November Edition
As we head into the holiday season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the dedication and growth I see each day in our school community. We are now deep into the second quarter, working together to reach meaningful levels of learning and achievement. November will be filled with events that bring us together and celebrate the values we hold dear. We are excited about our upcoming Fall Festival, which promises to be an evening of fun and connection for all. Our Veterans Day celebration will honor those who have served our country, allowing our students to learn the importance of service and gratitude. We’re also supporting Mission Mom’s Thanksgiving Food Drive, an initiative close to our hearts, as we work to provide meals for families in need. In addition, we’ll host Donuts with Dudes—a special opportunity to celebrate the influential men in our students' lives. Thank you for your continued partnership and for sharing in these moments of growth and gratitude. Together, we make a lasting impact on our students’ journey.
Warmly,
Dedra Adams and Katie Vaughan

We are delighted to announce that our Annual Auction for a Cause is LIVE! This online auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and our goal this year is to raise $25,000 in critical funds for our campus and the community. Our school motto is Learn – Connect – Serve and we model the Serve aspect of our purpose by donating a portion of our funds raised to another elementary school in Denton ISD in need.
This year, our PTA campus improvement goals include:
• Soccer Field and Irrigation Improvements
• Outdoor/Indoor Recess Equipment Improvements
• Indoor Space Renovations to create Flexible Environments
• Book Vending Machine
Our PTA has secured trips to Broken Bow and Belize, rounds of golf, virtual gaming, dining, sports, concerts and more for this auction. Class baskets are amazing and full of hidden gems - read the listings to see what is included. We have a number of campus experiences, from reserved parking and seating for school events. to our first ever Skip the Pick-Up Line pickup! Perhaps the most precious for our school are the gifts of time from our teachers and staff - bid on unique opportunities to build connections.
This online auction will run for two weeks and close at 7:00PM on Friday, November 8 during our 1st Annual Adkins Fall Festival event on campus, giving you an opportunity to see some of our items in person.

ARRIVAL
We understand that our day begins VERY early! We know that mornings can be a hectic time of the day getting students out of bed, offering them a healthy breakfast, gathering all the necessary items and getting out the door. Having a morning routine is critical to helping get students to school on time and in a way that causes little stress.
We have noticed that our line of cars arriving at or after 7:40 is getting longer and longer. We want to welcome ALL students in each day with a radical welcome. We want to remind you that our day begins at 7:40. That means that our 5th grade news crew starts our announcements and pledges at precisely 7:40.
When your students are arriving to school at 7:40 or later, they are walking into a classroom that has already settled and have started their day. We want to afford children the opportunity to begin their day on a positive rather than rushing to class.
Thank you for working as a family to create a routine that will foster students being in their seats at 7:40.
Our doors open at 7:20 with very few in the car line. If you want an easy drop-off ~ early is key!
We are unloaded 6-8 cars at a time at arrival. It seems that our car line fills heavily between 7:30-7:32. With an influx of students arriving in this window, you might want to try our back drop off where there is less traffic and students can hop out on their own. :)
Mission Mom's Food Drive
Each year, Adkins lives out our vision of SERVE by donating food to Mission Moms for Holiday Blessing Boxes. This food will support families that need additional food during school breaks and for the Holiday Season. You can take part in our efforts either through donating food items or financial support through the QR code in the flyer below.
We will be holding our Food Drive from
Wednesday, November 6th through Wednesday, November 13th.
This year, our Fly Friday in Specials and our 5th Grade Leadership Club will be helping to lead the efforts for our Food Drive. They have some fun ideas so be watching for their leadership!
PreK and K = Brownie Mix
1st Grade = Breakfast Muffin Mix OR Cornbread Mix
2nd Grade = Boxes of Stuffing Mix
3rd Grade = Boxes of Mac-N-Cheese
4th Grade = Boxes of Instant Mashed Potatoes
5th Grade = Canned Green Beans OR Dried Onion Topping
Adkins Awards
This November and December, our school will focus on the core value of Integrity—doing what’s right even when no one is watching. We’re committed to teaching our students to be intrinsically motivated, making choices that align with this important value. We encourage you to ask your child about what they’re learning around integrity and how they’re practicing it each day.
We will be watching this month for students who take the time to make positive choices all on their own.
Our next Awards Ceremony will be on Thursday, December 19th
Parents will be notified of students who will be receiving the monthly characteristic award and the learn, connect, serve award. It will be a secret for our sudents ~ but those parents will be invited to our awards assembly to celebrate their students.
Counselor's Corner ❤️
Our BULLYING v. CONFLICT lessons have been very engaging. Students have had some good examples of both and we will continue to discuss them as we continue working through the content. Please ask your children to share with you what they believe Bullying includes.
Gratitude is a great way to support mental health and wellness! When we focus on the good stuff, it is an immediate emotional and mental booster. This Thanksgiving, talk with your children about the power of being grateful and generous. Find some fun handouts to work on with your children HERE.
Our Lost and Found is gaining new items every day! Thank you for taking a moment to label your child’s items. If it has a name...we will deliver it to your student! When our Lost & Found starts being overloaded we will donate items to make room.
At Adkins our vision is to Learn, Connect and Serve each day. These qualities were shaped after our namesake, Dorothy P. Adkins who was a lifelong learner who strived to make deep connections with each and every person while serving her community and beyond.
As educators we are always in the learning cycle and we take part in a learning lab each month. We wanted to offer our parents and families an opportunity to learn as well. In these section each month we will add in an article, video or link to a great website that might bring you something new!
This month we are bringing you a few articles from one of our most used positive behavior supports, Love and Logic.
