Wolverine Weekly Volume #12
AES weekly updates on school activities and events.
November 18-29, 2024
Dear AES Families,
Nurse Maddie's Handwashing presentations were a hit with our K-4 students this past week. And with an uptick in the number of students and staff who have been ill, it was a very timely topic. To minimize the spread of germs, our AES custodians also worked extra this past Friday to deep clean classrooms. Please call AES at 810-591-0604 each day your student is ill and isn't able to come to school and send any doctor's notes the next day. This will allow us to change the absence to an excused absence. And in case of accidents, please send an extra set of clothes with your child each day. As the weather gets colder, your child will also need a winter coat, hats, gloves or mittens and boots to enjoy their time outside at recess. Please mark these outerwear items with your child's name or initials in case they are misplaced during the school day.
Here's what's scheduled for the next two weeks:
Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 18-20 - Hearing and Vision Screenings at AES
Friday, Nov. 22 - Popcorn Friday - $1/bag, thank you parent group!
Monday, November 25 - Polar Express Ticket Orders Due
Wednesday - Friday, Nov. 27-29 - No School - Happy Thanksgiving!
The next Wolverine Weekly will arrive in your email on December 1.
Please look for details from the AES Parent Group about the Santa's Secret Shop at AES on Friday, December 6th. AES students, who bring money from home and a list of who to shop for, will have the chance to shop during the school day with help from our AES Parent Group volunteers and NHS students from AJHS. The Santa's Secret Shop will also be open for the public to shop from 4:30-7:30pm.
Thank you for your support!

AES Principal
Polar Express at AES - Tickets - On Sale Now!
Tickets due no later than November 25th
Chooo-choo! All aboard! 🚂 The Polar Express Luncheon will happen again this year on Tuesday December 10th. Ticket order forms were sent home last week with AES students. They are on RED paper. Family members are invited to join us for our special holiday lunch during their student's lunch period on Tuesday December 10th.
Tickets are $8 each for the adults who are coming for lunch which includes ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a hot cocoa for dessert. Student meals are free. Due to limited seating, siblings are not able to attend. If you have more than 1 student, you would pay for 1 meal, but then can "sit" with each child during their assigned time.
Ticket sales are FINAL Monday November 25th to allow time for our kitchen staff to order the right amount of food. No meal tickets will be sold after November 25th.
If you need another ticket order form, please let us know.

Our next Parent Connection session will be a districtwide parent OK2SAY presentation from Maureen Lemon in the AJHS Collaboration Space on December 10, 2024 at 6:30pm. All parents are invited to join us for this informative presentation. OK2SAY is a state-wide program that allows students, parents or guardians, and other community members to report confidential tips on criminal activities or potential harm directed at students, school employees, or schools. The purpose of OK2SAY is to stop harmful behavior before it occurs.
AES receives federal funds through Title I, Part A. Informing parents of student progress and available services, including parents in decision making and evaluating programs and partnering with parents to support their child are all key components of Title I programs. Our Parent Advisory time is devoted to getting input and feedback from parents and guardians to help us make decisions about programming and services.

November Monthly School Theme - Friendship
Each month, AES focuses on one Word to help us learn how to work and learn together in a welcoming and safe environement. In October, we focused on Empathy. For November, we are focusing on Friendship. Our Students of the Month for November will be selected based on the demonstration of being a good friend.
Please join in and discuss with your child how to be a good friend.
Peer acceptance and friendship can help students to feel good about their school experience and perform better in the classroom. Students can learn to appreciate what makes them a good friend and what attributes they value in others. Like other skills or ideas, it’s helpful to be really explicit and specific when you teach students about healthy friendships. There are a few different elements of friendship you might want to teach about: support, encouragement, respect, trustworthiness, loyalty, togetherness, being yourself, being a good sport, and boundaries. And we can help them by teaching and modeling the social, coping, and problem-solving skills they need to make and keep friends.
As friends, we are inspired by each other and we take care of each other. We don't always agree, but we work through our differences. And friendships take work. It is worthwhile to show our students how we work on this art of friendship all our lives.
Please ask your child how they are being a good friend each day and discuss what that means at home, too.
Holiday Assistance - Community Resources
Please click on the link to the letter with information on community resources for holiday assistance from our Atherton Superintendent, Mrs. Case.
Absences - Please call!
If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to call the office in the morning at 810/591-0604 for each day your child is absent. For an absence to be excused, please provide a doctor's note for any days your child was out due to illness when your child returns to school.
Please click on the link below to access the district calendar for important dates such as early dismissal and days off.
Lost and Found Items
Is your Wolverine missing a sweatshirt or coat? Please ask your student to take a look through the lost and found items in the lobby. I encourage you to add your child's name to sweaters, jackets, coats, and sweatshirts so the owner can be easily identified if lost and found,
School Communication - Atherton App and Rooms
Have you downloaded the Atherton App? Did you accept the invitation to join your student's classroom Rooms?
Atherton has moved classroom news and teacher communications to families to Rooms. To access these communications, parents and guardians will need to download the Atherton App and accept the invitation to join your child's classroom Rooms. Invitations were sent out from edurooms.com on Thursday, September 5th. If you didn't receive an invitation, please contact your child's teacher or call the school office at 810-591-0604. Arrival and Dismissal
Parent Loop:
Thank you, families, who use the parent drop-off and pick-up loop, for getting in line and staying in line throughout the process to keep everyone safe!
For families who pick-up their student(s) at the end of the school day, please display the student's first and last name and grade level on the passenger side of your dashboard. This will allow us to quickly call for your student and get them ready to walk out to you once your vehicle is in one of the pick-up slots. Our goal is to have a safe and quick parent pick-up loop every day!
District Bus Transportation:
Our transportation department now has 4 bus drivers, which will allow for shorter rides for some of our AES students but did impact routes this week. Thank you for your patience with us as we finalize routes and help students learn which bus they ride to and from school. Please click on this memo from the Atherton Transportation Team.
Communicating Changes to Your Student's Transportation Plan:
In the event you need to change your student's transportation plan from school for the day, our AES office must have that information before 3:00 pm. No changes will be made after 3pm. This is the only way we can maintain a safe, accurate, speedy, and efficient dismissal.
