Weekly Update
April 11
From Principal Emily Kruzel
Dear Field Park Families,
Welcome back from spring break! It is truly so hard to believe that we are in the final stretch of the school year. Time. Has. FLOWN!
This week we welcomed a slew of volunteers who helped EACH Field Park Falcon plant seeds to be placed in our community garden. Thank you to ALL of our volunteers (in this experience AND all that have been and will be in the future!). We are so lucky 🌸.
In partnership,
Emily Kruzel
Please read the newsletter in its entirety! My next update will be on Friday, April 25!
Updates to Arrival and Dismissal
Due to the construction on the Methodist Church along the south side of 43rd between Franklin and Howard, we are adjusting the student pathway for crossing Howard and the flow of traffic during arrival and dismissal to ensure students’ safety.
Students should plan to cross Howard Avenue on the NORTH side of 43rd. There will be a crossing guard standing on the north crosswalk with a stop sign & another crossing guard helping to remind students of the new pathway (no longer crossing at the south end of Howard/43rd).
Because students are crossing on the North side of Howard/43rd... During arrival & dismissal:
Traffic on Howard between Hillgrove and 43rd will be continue to be NORTHBOUND ONLY
Traffic will not be able to be able to continue North on Howard past Field Park, and instead will be directed WEST on 43rd.
Traffic on 43rd between Howard and Franklin will be WEST BOUND ONLY
We will place DO NOT ENTER signs at three locations (as pictured below) to indicate this traffic pattern at arrival and dismissal.
FIELD PARK RUNNING CLUB - All 3rd, 4th and 5th GRADERS ARE WELCOME
Spring Running Club begins today, Wednesday, April 16th and is held during lunch recess.
Students can run or walk. The total number of miles will be tracked weekly. A gift card will be awarded to the top runner/ walker in each grade on Wednesday, May 21st.
No sign up is necessary. Students should look for the Running Club sign near the sidewalk by the playground.
Please contact Molly Kepler, if you have any questions.
STUDENT COUNCIL
Student council will be selling Smencils, mechanical Smencils, Glitter Gel Smens, Smelly Gellies, and regular Smens for their 3rd Trimester Fundraiser. The sale will run from 4/14/25 - 4/17/25 and all items will be sold for $2 each. On Monday, students will be allowed to purchase only one item so that everyone has a chance to participate in the sale. After that, students can purchase more items. All proceeds will go to local food pantries. Thank you for your support for our student council!
Class Placement 2025-26
This is the time of year when we begin the process of creating class lists for the 25/26 school year.
The following parameters will guide class placement:
All classes at all grade levels will have children representing a broad range of academic abilities, needs, and backgrounds.
- Class placement will be made based upon the development of the whole child --academically, socially and behaviorally.
- Class lists are carefully constructed by current grade-level teachers and staff who work with each student, with final decisions determined by the building Principal. We take class list determination very seriously, weighing the needs of each child and striving to build balanced, productive, supportive classes. A great deal of time, thought, and consideration goes into the creation of class lists, as this is a critical element to a thriving school experience for all.
Knowing that our staff work arduously to build thriving classes, if you wish to share insight for your child’s specific needs, this is the time to do so.
Parents who wish to make a statement to describe their child’s academic, social, and/or behavioral needs may do so in writing via email (ekruzel@d101.org). These comments, focused on your child’s learning style and specific academic/social needs, will then be given consideration as a part of the process.
We cannot accept any requests or avoidances for specific teachers; with only two sections per grade level (across most grade levels), parent input can not limit the child’s placement to a single option and thus are not able to request or choose their child's teacher. Please note that any request for or against a specific teacher will NOT be included in the class placement process.
Please email me with any specific input NO LATER THAN Friday, April 25, for your input to be considered in our placement process. Thank you!

Illinois Science Assessment (5th Grade Only)
Illinois Science Assessment (ISA): Students in 5th & 8th grades take this assessment, beginning on Monday, April 14. This assessment is spread out in testing sessions across three days.
Here is what you can do to help support good testing experiences:
- Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast each day.
- Schedule appointments outside of the testing windows. This promotes a positive testing environment and reduces the number of make-up tests, which keeps learning flowing!
Upcoming Dates of Non-Attendance
Friday, April 18 - DAY OF NON-ATTENDANCE
Wednesday, April 23 - HALF DAY EARLY DISMISSAL
* Students will be dismissed at 11:40am and only AM Kinder attends students in MORNING
* PM Kinder students do NOT ATTEND
