February 2023
Principal's Point
I hope you all had a fantastic break filled with some time for fun and some time for relaxation! We have crossed that half-way point of the year, with the 100th day of school approaching quickly. We are all excited to welcome back Mrs. Woofenden who will resume her role as our P.E. specialist as well as teaching 4-6 math, 7-9 math, and 7-9 health. Once I finish the chemistry units with our junior high students in the next few weeks, she will take over 7-9 science as well.
March will be a busy month for us as we continue our adventure of learning Edsby. We are still working out a few details in the office but it looks like we will be able to release the new report card this time around. As a reminder, students in grades 1-6 will see marks based on separate outcomes they have been working towards rather than a single class average. This is a significant change, but I hope that with time we will all see the value that this type of reporting offers. Grade 7-9 students will continue to see a single percentage mark for their classes at this time. I am completely confident that things won’t go perfectly as planned, so thank you in advance for your patience as we work through this! These report cards will be released directly on Edsby on March 23rd. If you require a printed copy, please contact the office to request one once they have been released.
Most of our junior high class will be setting sail on their marine biology trip towards the end of the month. This incredible 5 day experiential learning opportunity will provide students with an opportunity to learn about ecology, biodiversity, navigation, sailing, sustainability, and teamwork all while sailing off of the coast of Victoria. We can’t wait to hear all about the experience!
At the end of February, the teachers engaged in some great learning as we attended teachers’ convention in either Lethbridge or Calgary. We have two additional professional development days coming up; one on March 17th and one on March 31st to continue working towards our professional and school goals.
Spring is nearly here! Or maybe that is just wishful thinking. Either way, I hope you all have a great month ahead.
