FCMS EXPRESS
Week of November 11, 2024
From Mr. Liggett
FCMS Family,
As the school days continue to roll along, I wanted to take this time to recognize our faculty and staff. Their commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with students and supporting them beyond the classroom truly impacts their learning and growth. They play an important role in shaping students’ lives, both academically and personally. The FCMS faculty and staff go the extra mile and are invaluable as they contribute to a supportive environment that extends well beyond academics. It’s clear that their hard work and dedication play a major role in helping our students succeed both in school and in life.
Thank you faculty and staff for recognizing our students in a positive light and making a positive difference in the lives of our FCMS students!

Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Smith: Sporty Sidekick
This week's staff spotlight focuses on Mrs. Smith, the assistant PE teacher. She helps Mr. Laughlin with equipment and class management.
Mrs. Smith attended Ivy Tech College and majored in Business. She has been an assistant at FCMS for four years and also subbed at Franklin County and Batesville Community Schools for several years.
A little bit about Mrs. Smith is that she loves summer. She enjoys swimming, hiking, and other kinds of outdoor activities. Mrs. Smith likes to watch pro football, but because of all the changes, she doesn’t prefer just one team. When Mrs. Smith was younger, she dreamed of being a landscape architect. She prefers Starbucks over Dunkin, but she likes McDonalds over both! She loves it when the pumpkin spice lattes are out in the fall, but when they aren’t out, she only drinks hot coffee. Mrs. Smith played softball when she was 11-12 years old, but she was not very competitive. She likes to play for fun and exercise.
Mrs. Smith is a student favorite at FCMS.

Academic Team
The Academic Team had its first meet last night. Three of the five teams scored very well, correctly answering ten or more questions in the respective categories! The team came three points from passing the next best team. This was an excellent effort from these students as they entered the first meet for FCMS since before covid. Congratulations to all the team members: Emmalee Pease, Aylah Taylor, Ariannah Ison, Jade Rolfes, Jo Vessal, Brigette Day, Aubrie White, Adam Lee, Harper Mainous, and Kelsey Young..Dane Brougher and Emma Amburgey were absent for this meet. If anyone would like to join us in competing against the other schools in our conference, please see Mrs. Edwards or Mrs. Mitchum.
The next Academic Team Meet will be December 11th @ 3:30 in the FCMS Media Center
From Mr. Barricklow's 7th grade Science
Students in 7th grade science applied what they learned about work and power to calculate their individual horsepower. Students took their weight and converted to Newtons and then calculated the work done climbing 13 steps. They were timed in the climbing of steps to find their power. Using James Watt's power conversion they determined their approximate horsepower.....usually less than .5 hp.
From Our 6th Grade Greyhounds
6th grade students in Mrs. Ariens' Writing classes worked on silly poems about Mr. Sherwood to demonstrate their "Sentence Fluency" skills. They definitely understood the task! We now have a very entertaining wall at FMCS! A very special thank-you goes to Mr. Sherwood for being a willing participant in this activity!
Olivia made an AMAZING Extra Credit project called an Aztec chinampa! Chinapas are floating gardens that are still used today! Anybody have a pond??? Try constructing one for yourself!
From Mrs. Riffle
The Exploring Ag classes made solar bots this week as part of our Natural Resource lesson in order to explore the power of solar energy and some benefits and limitations of utilizing our renewable resources.
*Scholastic Book Fair is This Week*
The Book Fair is here all this week in the FCMS Media Center!
