Sawnee Elementary
September 2024
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
What an amazing start to the 2024-2025 school year! August has been a whirlwind and we are just getting started. With September comes two exciting opportunities - volunteering and Sawnee Soars. If you wish to volunteer, please reach out and come on in! In addition, we will start Watch Dog Dads on September 5th. Melissa Warner is the contact person for more information.
Sawnee Soars fundraiser kicks off on September 3rd. This will run through the month of September. Please review the information in our PTO section below for more details. It is with your partnership this fundraiser is successful. We appreciate your support!
This year, we will have Family Unplugged Nights. After obtaining feedback from you, we made the switch from just a Family Connect Night to Family Unplugged. We know it can be difficult with all of the extracurricular activities our students participate in, so we hope this will keep the connection within reach. The choice board is linked in the newsletter and will come home with your student at the beginning of each month.
This month also kicks off the Family Engagement Academy from Forsyth County Schools. This focus for September is assessment and will be in collaboration with Dr. Heather Tallant in Teaching and Learning. We will spend time reviewing the purpose of assessment within each grade band and also provide ways families can partner with the school to build student’s ability to take ownership of their own learning. Families will walk away with tools to prepare for parent-teacher conferences and interpret report cards. Please share the attached flyer for the September Family Engagement Academy.
Can you believe it? We are already starting to see items collected in the Lost and Found. Please talk with your student about remembering to bring in items from Recess. It is also helpful to make sure the student's name is written on a tag or somewhere on their items to help them be returned.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to give feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us. It is a pleasure to work with all of our families.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Davis
Principal

Watch DOGS
We are excited to start our Watch DOGS program back up! Whether you are a dad, granddad, uncle, older brother, or community member, we would love to have you spend the day with us!
Please review the available slots on the Sign Up here and click on the button to sign up on the day you can come. Feel free to sign up for an AM, PM, or both. If you are joining us for a half day, the PM times for K-2 would be best and the AM times for 3-5 would be best. You will have an opportunity to help in carline, be on the morning school news, and travel from class to class as a great role model for the day. You'll get to help teachers, play games, read stories and see your child in action with learning! Please fill out our Mandated Reporter/Volunteer Confidentiality form prior to signing up here .
Don't have time for the full or half day? Come join us anytime in the carline starting at 7:50. Please email Melissa Warner to let her know which days you would like to join.
Thank you in advance!
Reach out to Melissa Warner ( f43866@forsyth.k12.ga.us ) with any questions.
Digital Citizenship
Forsyth County Schools is partnering with Neptune Navigate to provide lessons focusing on digital citizenship. Each month will dig into a different topic. During the month of September, students will be learning about Digital Citizenship: “The Sawnee Way.” Our goal is to teach students to be Safe, Responsible, and Respectful when using technology and engaging online.
Would you like to continue the conversation at home? Here are some questions you may ask your elementary aged child:
- Why is it important for you to be smart and safe online
- Can you think of some things the internet is good for? How about what it’s bad for?
- How can you tell if someone is a stranger? How can you tell if someone is a stranger online?
- What does it mean to be responsible in the online world?

SAWNEE SOARS FUNDRAISER- We are so excited to announce Tuesday, September 3rd as the kickoff to this year's fundraiser! We have lots of fun prizes and rewards planned... for top EARNERS and top classroom PARTICIPATION! There's so much to look forward to; we know how much the kids love the "Principal Punishments" so we promise to have some good ones ready!
This year, we're raising money to add more turf to Sawnee Valley! The addition last year was such a functional hit that our admin team would like to increase the size/coverage and we absolutely agree! Part of our fundraiser, as in year's past, will also be used for additional improvements around campus, to put on school-wide events and to fulfill teacher grants.
September is going to be a really fun month! We have a pretty spectacular community here at Sawnee and we're excited to see what you guys can do! Thank you, in advance, for all of your support! Now, let's get ready to take our school to new heights and SOAR!
BE SURE you are following us on social media (@sawneeelementarypto) to stay in the loop all month long!
