Daysland Digest

Principal's Corner
Last Friday, we had a fantastic farewell ceremony for our Grade 12 class. It was great seeing everyone dressed up as we celebrated the class and their accomplishments at Daysland School. Thank you to all of the family and friends who were able to join us; it made for a truly great event. Also, thanks to all of the staff who contributed their time and effort to make this day possible, especially Mrs. Thomas, who put in many hours to ensure everything went off without a hitch.
Usually, we would be entering the Provincial Achievement Test season in May; however, this year, that is pushed back because our Grade 6 class is not writing PATs. The Alberta government announced that 2023-2024 PATs for Grade 6 LA and Math are canceled due to the change of curriculum that took place. Our current Grade 6s wrote the Social and Science PATs as part of a split class last year, so they will not have to write any this year. However, we are starting to inch closer to June, and our secondary classes should be thinking about their end-of-year exams, particularly our Grade 9, 11 and 12 classes, who will write government exams in June. A schedule of these exams is provided later in the newsletter. We will have a full secondary exam schedule shared by the end of the month. We also want to remind our Grade 11/12 students that they have access to Rock the Diploma courses. These courses provide students with practice and in-depth preparation to write the exams. More information was sent to students and parents through email.
On May 27th, our school is welcoming a special guest speaker for our Gr. 7-12 classes. Tyler Smith is a Humboldt bus crash survivor. Since this tragedy, he has become a successful speaker, as well as the winner of the Amazing Race Canada. We will also be hosting students from Forestburg and Sedgewick. We are grateful for FFCS and the County of Flagstaff for making this event possible for our students.
We hope that you are having a great start to May. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with us.
