Looking for additional resources to strengthen your library's role as a community space that welcomes everyone?

• The School Library Journal article A Path Forward: How Libraries Support Refugee Children shows how libraries throughout the country are welcoming and supporting refugee youth.

• The independent bookstore KitaabWorld has created thematic book lists as part of A Kitaab for a Cause: Counter Islamophobia Through Stories.

• The I'm Your Neighbor project offers book lists, reviews, and recommendations of children's literature featuring "new arrival" cultures and groups. “I’m Your Neighbor” and Inclusion offers more ideas for inclusion as well as questions help you start thinking critically about the services your library is providing.
  

• The Horn Book has Refugees welcome here: resources and booklist as well as a list of picture books focusing on refugee children.

• Use the image above from from illustrator Aram Kim or something similar to Oregon libraries' "All Are Welcome" buttons to show patrons that everyone is welcome at the library. Hafuboti has also created inclusive images that are meant for the summer reading program, but can also be used all year long.

Mark your calendar for the kickoff event on Saturday, May 13, 2pm-4pm at the State House. Libraries are invited to participate at the event with with an activity and/or promotional materials for their upcoming SRP.

This February 17-26, the Providence Children's Film Festival invites audiences of all ages to enjoy nearly 100 feature-length and short films—including live-action, documentary, and animation—made by filmmakers from around the world.

“We believe in the power of visual storytelling to transform how we think about the world and our place in it,” says Anisa Raoof, Executive Director of PCFF. “By giving voice to people of many cultures, PCFF’s international films encourage Rhode Island children and families to embrace a global perspective—and find themselves reflected on the screen.”

The Festival takes place at main venues within walking distance of downtown Providence and at satellite venues across the state. With more than 10 days of screenings, filmmaking workshops and free activities, along with post-film presentations that help deepen the film-watching experience, this year's Festival brings a world of film to even more Rhode Island youth and families. Other fun ways to enjoy the Festival:

- Volunteer! Volunteers enjoy an unusual, behind-the-scenes experience with one of the top children’s film festivals in the country dedicated to films, filmmakers, and youth. Meet meet new people, gain valuable hands-on festival experience, and enjoy access to screenings and special events. Individuals, kids and families are welcome! We are happy to document community service hours for students.

- Visit the library! PCFF proudly partners with libraries in Providence and Warwick to offer Festival screenings and workshops at no charge. Visit www.pcffri.org for the schedule. - Join the Opening Night Celebration! Help kick off the Festival on Friday, February 17 at the RISD Museum from 5:30-9 pm. The evening begins with a tasty reception, followed by a 30-minute screening of international PCFF-curated short films for children of all ages. Audiences then enjoy a screening of Academy Award-nominee My Life As A Zucchini (suggested for ages 13+). Note: A second screening of My Life As A Zucchini, sponsored by Media Smart Libraries, takes place during the Festival on Saturday, February 25, 4:15 PM at RISD Auditorium, 17 Canal Walk (across from RISD Museum), Providence.
- Attend an admission-free screening! Sunday shows at Metcalf Auditorium/RISD Museum are free for the community. Reserve your tickets online: www.pcffri.org.

The goal of this event is to provide an opportunity for community financial partners (librarians, organizations, government agencies, etc.) to showcase financial literacy programs and/or information available to libraries across RI during Money Smart Week 2017 (April 22-29) and year-round. The Financial Literacy Showcase will feature simultaneous tabletop presentations (poster or multimedia), which allows attendees to explore the showcase, ask questions of presenters and network with librarians and community partners at their own pace.

Some of your fellow librarians will be on hand to present Financial Literacy programs aimed at kids and teens. Babs Wells from Greenville has done some wonderful programming for kids and families and will share what she has done and what you can replicate at your library. Chris Wallace Goldstein will share what Woonsocket has done for teen programming, at no cost. Michelle Novello of the Providence Community Libraries will talk about their wide variety of programming for kids, teens and adults.
