A Message from your School Leaders
Dear Wentworth School Community,
The story of the 2023-2024 school year is a decade in the making because this year marks our TENTH YEAR at Wentworth School! It feels simultaneously like a lifetime ago and just yesterday that we made the transition from the "old Wentworth" to our beautiful school. Throughout the school year, we have enjoyed a stroll down memory lane, and reflecting on these last ten years has shown us just how much we have to be proud of! The students and staff who are a part of our school today are now a chapter in this special story, celebrating learning and growing in a facility that has provided so many opportunities and is a source of pride for our entire community.
As we embarked on this milestone year, we stayed laser-focused on our goals while recognizing that social and emotional learning is the critical foundation for all we do. Teachers and staff had the incredible opportunity to hear from a transformational keynote speaker, Principal Kafele, to kick off the year and get fired up to meet students where they are, as they are. This message resonates deeply and describes our journey over the past decade, reflecting our commitment to fostering empathy, resilience, and growth in each and every student. From the first day of third grade to the final moments of fifth grade, our staff has supported students to bravely navigate the emotions that come with being a part of a community, showing empathy and compassion, and learning valuable lessons along the way. Each smile shared, each newly formed friendship, and each act of kindness has illuminated our school with joy!
Congratulations to our fifth graders as they turn the final pages of this chapter and prepare for new adventures. Our wish is for you to continue to celebrate your successes, learn from your challenges, and continue to grow together as a community.
Sincere gratitude to every member of our school community. Each and every one of you have truly made an impact and have shaped the story of the 2023-2024 school year at Wentworth.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Kelli Crosby & Brem Stoner
A New Chapter for our Asst. Principal, Mr. Stoner
Dear Wentworth Families,
It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to share with you all that I have accepted a new position as principal of Williams-Cone Elementary School in Topsham for the upcoming school year. I am excited for this next step professionally, as well as the opportunity to be closer to my family.
Working with your children in Scarborough has been such a privilege. I’ve always believed that it takes a village, and your support for our schools and your advocacy for your students is truly admirable. Thank you for your commitment to our mission and values. Wentworth is an amazing place to learn and grow, and I have no doubt that the team here will be successful in their search for the next Assistant Principal.
I hope you all have a safe and fun summer!!
With gratitude,
Mr. Stoner
Trimester 3 Allied Arts Newsletter
Please read the Allied Arts Trimester 3 Newsletter. This is an update on all of the amazing and enriching learning your Wentworth students have been engaged in this spring in their Allied Arts classes. Ask them about their favorite project!
Budget & Placement Update
Thank you for your support, Scarborough voters! We were thrilled to learn that the School BUdget Validation Referendum was passed on June 11. Once we wrap up the year with our students, we will be on a hiring mission to continue our tradition of excellence among the dedicated and professional staff at our school.
Once hiring is complete, we will finalize students' placement. Teachers, case managers, related service providers, and student advocates have all been heavily involved with this process for several weeks and provided input as to student groupings. Our goal is to communicate students' placement for the 24-25 school year at or near the end of June via email. Thanks, once again, for your support!

Summer Garden Help Needed
Calling all Summer Garden Helpers !
It’s that time again!
We need garden helpers to come and water, weed, and help harvest the bounty this summer.
We donate produce to those in need in the Scarborough Community through the Wentworth Cafe during the summer months. The fall crops will be both donated and sampled by students.
As school ends on the 14th. We will need helpers from June 15th through the end of August. We ask that you commit to a full week( Sunday through Saturday) and then, we will create a schedule with all those that have volunteered. Please let me know time periods to avoid when you may be away or otherwise occupied.
Let me know your thoughts and I will be in touch with you with the schedule and times to come in and learn the ropes about the beds and plans for the summer. Please include your phone number and child homeroom teacher.
You may respond to Catherine Hewitt at chewitt@scarboroughschools.org or send a note with your child.
The garden needs you and I can't tell you how much your time and attention is appreciated. Thanks for making this garden possible!
The Garden Leads,
Catherine Hewitt, Janeen Chin, Deb Justham, Pat Barnosky
Wentworth School End of year Medication Pick-up
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Please be sure to pick up all your child’s medications that are stored in the health office, no later than 2:30 pm, on June 14th, 2024. Any medicine left at school after that time must be discarded. Per School Board Policy, medication cannot be stored in the clinic over the summer.
Both you and your child’s physician must sign a new form at the beginning of each school year. The medication policy JLCD may be accessed online in the Scarborough School Department Board of Education Policies section J-Students. We also accept asthma action plans and food allergy plans signed by your child’s physician in addition to your signature on the permission to administer medication form.

Lost and Found...and not yet Claimed
We tried really hard to have kids look and claim what may be theirs...but there is still quite a collection in our lost and found. If you discover that something is missing, items will be bagged up for donation this afternoon and held for 1 week in case any new items made their way in recently. If you need to come look through the bags after today, please do so by June 20. Any unclaimed items will be donated on June 21.
