Autumn Term -10th October 2024
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope that you have all had a chance to read that letter that came out to all families on Tuesday regarding the filming taking place at HJS tomorrow. This is an exciting opportunity for the school and I am sure that children will enjoy seeing the crew, lighting, special effects and everything that forms part of a professional advert recording. The letter outlined the changes around the start and end of the day as these will be different and affect children and families. We have notified all wrap around care providers who will work with us to ensure the day runs smoothly at these times. We will of course let you all know when the advert is due to be released on Sky.
We are always incredibly proud of our school and particularly when we have the chance to show new families around the partnership. Next week sees the start of our open events in which new families can register to tour the schools. Please share this information with other local families who are keen to join our successful partnership. For the first time, we will also be running Saturday tours.
Being a proud member of our community also means ensuring children are coming to school in the correct uniform. Trainers should only be worn on days when children have PE lessons. Please ensure that the correct footwear is worn at all other times.
Finally, a huge thank you to all those families that have already purchased gifts from the Amazon Wish list. It has be a delight seeing how happy the children are to receive their presents - all of which make a difference to the class. If you are able to contribute, please use the links below.
I hope we have a slightly drier weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week.
Mr J James

Every year at HJS, pupils are able to develop their creativity by designing and making products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. Children also evaluate past and present designs and technology to enable them to become informed consumers as well as potential innovators. Through the study of both design and food technology, pupils learn how to take risks, become resourceful, innovative, enterprising, healthy and capable citizens with the confidence to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.
Some of the projects the pupils can look forward to are:
Year 3- designing and making a mechanical robot based on the book 'The Wild Robot'.
Year 4- designing and making a lamp that includes an electrical switch linking to their 'electricity' topic in Science.
Year 5- this is a new project that has been introduced and the pupils will be designing and making a photo frame out of a wooden structure.
Year 6- designing and making a phone case cover/pencil case pouch linking to their History topic of WW2, 'Make do and mend'.
We look forward to seeing what the pupils design and create this year in Design and Food Technology.

REMINDER
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO RAISE MONEY FOR OUR SCHOOL
PLEASE NO UNIFORM
Clothing Collection with Rags 2 Riches 4 Schools
Thursday 17th October
Bags have now been sent home so start collecting now!
Do you have clothes in your wardrobe that you no longer wear, maybe last year’s fashions, or that buy that was too good to leave but it’s not really you after all?
Please help us fundraise by donating your good quality unwanted, reusable (clean, dry and wearable) clothes and accessories (please pair and tie shoes together)
We get 50p for every kilo we collect of reusable items.
Your donations become affordable clothing in other countries so please do not send uniform, poor quality, dirty or wet items, and no duvets, pillows, curtains, books, CDs or bric-a-brac.
STOP and THINK - is it something you’d wear out and about yourself or pass to a friend? If not, no-one else will want to buy and wear it either, so unfortunately it’s not reusable and can’t go in the bag.
Even if it’s only one t-shirt please bring it in, as it will all help our school.
If you can involve family, friends and neighbours please do.
We truly appreciate your support in helping raise additional funds for our school for the benefit of our children.
There’s no better feeling than knowing you raised funds, helped the economy, the environment, and somebody on the other side of the world – and all by donating some clothes.
If we can fill 100 bags we’ll have half a tonne!
Please bring your donations to school on
Thursday 17th October at drop off.
