Genius Hour in Action:
Our 5th Grade Students' Genius Hour Project
A group of our 5th graders decided to tackle the problem of the stickers in our fields. They have done extensive research on this issue and have connected with Mr. Evans (LISD Senior Executive Director of Operations) to discuss their identified problem, research, and work through a solution together. Mr. Evans has organized testing zones for our students to test out the types of grass they found would be best for our area. Our students are making a lasting difference for our campus! Way to go Rattlers!
We are so excited to see which grass (donated by The Grass Patch) works best!!
Our students will present their work and their findings at the school board meeting on Dec. 12th! We will share out the video made by the district about our amazing students later that week!
Let's make some predictions!
Which grass will grow best on our field?

Recycling Opportunity! ππ
Hello Parents!
Interested in helping our environment? Do you enjoy organizing and planning? Well, then I have a volunteer job for you!! I'm seeking parents who would be interested in fulfilling a school wide passion project to help the City of Austin reach a goal to be a zero waste city by 2040.
We would begin this project by collecting clean and dry plastic grocery bags in a designated container one neighborhood grade level at a time. Once the time period is over to collect them, they would then be turned into a local recycling center.
If this is something you would be interested in, please contact me at: Tiffany.Horton2@leanderisd.org. Thank you! More information to come soon!
ART SUPPLY NEED π§π»βπ¨

Referrals for QUESTπ‘
Referrals for the QUEST program 2025-2026 school year will be open through March 1, 2025. Leanderβs tests students for GT/QUEST once a year in the spring.
Does your child possess some of these Common Characteristics of Gifted Children? (source: What is Giftedness?):
Comprehends material above their age peers
Surprising emotional depth and sensitivity
Strong curiosity and unique interests
Quirky sense of humor
Creative problem solving and imagination
Quick learning with minimal repetition
Self-aware, socially aware, and globally aware
These MAY be indicators that the GT/QUEST program could be beneficial to your child.
Screening for the GT/QUEST program is based on referral by any adult that knows the student. If you feel your child may have an educational need for gifted services, please complete the River Ridge QUEST Referral Forms in order for them to be screened for next yearβs GT/QUEST program. Parents will be notified by April 1, 2025 if their child moves to testing. Testing results will be sent home before the last day of school.

November STAFF SPOTLIGHT ππ
Thankful for Ms. Johnson π€©
Ms. Johnson is a truly considerate educator. She considers each and every student. She takes note of what makes each student who they are and takes every step imaginable to meet their needs, emotionally, socially, and academically. She considers her craft as a teacher. Although she is an extremely seasoned teacher and has many tools under her belt, she is mindful to adapt her instruction when necessary. She is always willing to try something new if it will benefit her students. She is also considerate of her team. Yes, there are only two of them, but she works so well with her partner to be in sync with their teaching while also maintaining her individual teaching style. She is also considerate of our campus as she works individually and with a team to progress our initiatives. We are so grateful to have a truly considerate and loving teacher! Thank you Ms. Johnson!! You make our school great!
