Welcome to Term 2!
I hope everyone had a restful break, ready for an engaging term of learning ahead.
You’ll see from our Key Dates (below) that there are many events and activities to look forward to - please ensure you take particular note of the public holidays and Teacher Only day (which was set by the Ministry of Education).
You’ll be aware that phones in schools have been banned nationally, so it’s a good time for a reminder that phones and smartwatches with communication functionality are not permitted to be brought onto school premises by students (a policy that has been in place for many years at our school).
New Multi-sport Turf on the Top Court
I’d also like to once again acknowledge the PTA for their fundraising efforts from 2023, which enabled the Board to complete the brand new 2nd netball turf on the top court in good time for the netball season, in addition to purchasing new hall tables/trolley and MENPS-branded marquees for future community events.
As you know, the Board relies entirely on fundraising and family donations to prioritise these kind of discretionary investments around the school, which would otherwise not be possible as they do not receive any Ministry funding.
In other property news, moving forward we will soon begin the replacement of our damaged Hall floor, along with (Ministry-funded) re-roofing, some classroom refurbishment and toilet upgrades in Block 2, all of which we hope to have underway before the end of the school year/start of 2025 classes.
A warm welcome back once again - we look forward to seeing you around school some time soon.

Pottery market coming up on the Fri/Sat of Mother's Day weekend. Each piece unique, quality and handmade. It's also a fundraiser for St Columba's community work in Auckland, including its weekly lunch for 65 people, in its 8th year. Playground for littlies. Local cafés recommended for post-purchase refreshments. Entry to market by koha if you can.
We would also like to provide an update on Student ID cards. Unfortunately we will not be supporting physical ID cards this year – all queries will need to be forwarded to Plasticard (or manufacturer of your choice). Digital IDs under the Yoti app will also be discontinued; schools currently using the MyMahi student ID will still be able to use this for verification when loading concessions onto their AT HOP card.
