Hearing Loss - what's it like?
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have a hearing loss? The Deaf/Hard of Hearing team in the West Bend School District wants to spread awareness of and understanding for people who have hearing loss here in West Bend and beyond. Take a moment to use these links to create a better understanding of what it may be like for some Deaf/Hard of Hearing people:
Volleyball Intramurals
The goal of the Silverbrook Intramural Volleyball program is to allow students to further their volleyball skills in a fun and competitively balanced environment. The program is 4 weeks long, 2 sessions per week, for an hour after school. Early in the program, students will focus on developing and advancing their skills in bumping, setting, and serving. As the program progresses, students will be split by ability level and continue more appropriate development. The last few sessions will provide the students a chance to use their skills in competitively balanced competitions.
To participate, students must : have a completed Clubs and Activities Form, pay the $5 per sport activity fee, and have a completed sign-up form. Sign up form link
Intramural volleyball will start on Thursday, January 16th and run through Tuesday, February 11th. The program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week from 3:10-4:10.
Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
As you know, the entire 5th grade will be attending a special concert at the HS on the morning of Tuesday, January 21st. Your music teachers will be preparing students for this event, but you can get the whole family involved, too! The theme of the concert this year is “Musical Vacation,” and they’ve programmed some wonderful selections for West Bend’s 4th and 5th graders. Please consider exploring the links below on your own.
Here is a link to a SPOTIFY PLAYLIST of the pieces
Here is a link to a RESOURCE GUIDE for background information and suggested activities.
We’d like our 5th graders to please DRESS UP on the day of the concert, as they are attending a fine arts performance and will be representing Silverbrook.
Happy listening!
5th Grade Vision Screening
On the morning of Friday, January 31st, 5th graders will have their vision screening with the District Nurse and the West Bend Lions Club. Special vision screening equipment is used to take a picture of the eyes where measurements are used to note a "pass" or "referral." Students will bring home the results from the screening in their take home folders, and families will be notified if their student receives a referral from the screening team.

Lesson: Your Solution
Summary: In this lesson, your child will choose a solution to a problem in their school community and explain how it meets the wants and needs of the people who are affected by the problem.
Try This at Home: Point out a change that has happened in your neighborhood recently that was intended to solve a problem. Ask your child if that change was a good solution, and how they know.
6th Grade
Lesson: Why Conflicts Escalate?
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will identify behaviors that can cause conflicts to escalate, so they keep them from becoming more serious.
