Non AC Schools Releasing Early
Dear staff, students, and families,
We want to begin by thanking our dedicated staff for everything you did today – and everything you do every day – to keep our students safe and comfortable. We are incredibly grateful for the care you show our young people.
The Portland area forecast is still calling for hot temperatures through the weekend, and, given that we do not expect much overnight relief tonight, we are releasing all staff and students in non air-conditioned buildings three hours early tomorrow (Friday, September 6).
Schools with air conditioning will operate on a normal schedule.
All childcare and PPS-sponsored afternoon activities held in non air-conditioned buildings are canceled Friday. Athletics will follow OSAA guidelines when making decisions about practices and activities.
Early release times by grade level in non air-conditioned buildings are as follows:
Elementary school – 11:30 a.m.
K8 – 12:30 p.m.
Middle school – 1:00 p.m.
High school – 12:30 p.m.
The schools with air conditioning that will operate on a normal schedule are:
- Benson HS
- Clarendon Head Start
- Faubion School
- Forest Park ES
- Franklin HS
- Grant HS
- Harriet Tubman MS
- hayu alqi uyxat (the Multiple Pathways to Graduation building)
- Holiday Center
- Kellogg MS
- Lincoln HS
- McDaniel HS
- Roosevelt HS
- Rosa Parks ES
- Wilcox
All bus riders coming from non air-conditioned schools will arrive at their stops roughly three-hours earlier than their usual time.
Next week’s forecast calls for much cooler temperatures, and we anticipate a return to our regular schedule for all of our buildings beginning Monday. If that changes, you will hear from us.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jon Franco, Chief of Schools
Joe Crelier, Director of Risk Management
