Sending Students to the Library
The library will continue to accommodate students from study halls who intend to use library resources for research, collaboration, or assignment help. We are emphasizing the following student expectations this year, and are asking that you play our library expectation video during the first ABCD cycle in your study halls prior to sending students down.
1) Work Hard- Bring work to do. No gaming please.
2) Be Kind- Respect our community of learners and the library staff.
3) Be Accountable- Use the pass system to come and go.
4) Leave no Trace- Clean your space. Eat your lunch in the cafeteria.
Pass Procedures
Library Closed: Sept 5-6. Regular operations begin Monday, September 9.
Full period study halls: Please use the included library pass to send up to 6 students who need library resources.Passes for underclassmen during lunch half-block study halls: Teachers may write pre-signed passes for individual students who have a specific need for library resources or collaborative time. Please indicate on the pass what work the student will be completing.
Gold Passes: Seniors will show their gold passes to use the library.
Please be "hands-on" in signing kids out to the library. Last year we found that students were signing friends onto the library pass without their knowledge, leading to attendance inaccuracies. We also had students who were kept from using the library due to first come, first served policies. Please give pass priority to students who need library resources.
Finally, please call the library before sending down extra students or a class. We plan staffing by period based on anticipated numbers and often have only one adult assigned to the library for a given period.
Thank you for your help as we try to cultivate a welcoming, yet productive environment!

Thanks to the generous donation of a portable DVD player by Joann Hamm, students can now sign out DVDs for in-library use.
Remember that you can also make BOCES off-air recording requests through the library. These become available to stream through our Safari Montage subscription for a year, after which our educational use permission ends. September's WXXI's highlighted educational offerings will post here when available.

In addition to selecting books that would support classroom projects, this summer I began generally updating our social issue, social emotional health, and STEM collections. I purchased replacement copies of short story, poetry, and essay collections that were musty or otherwise damaged. I have also been purchasing young adult and professional texts with a focus on cultural responsiveness and team building. As the new purchases begin to arrive, I will be adding them to the following resource list for you to peruse.
I welcome your continued feedback and material requests in the 2019-2020 school year!
