What's happening at ALA? (PreK-12th Grade Communication)

STUDENT & STAFF HOLIDAY

As a reminder, Monday, September 2nd is a student & staff holiday for SAISD. The overview of school holidays can always be found on our 2024-2025 Instructional Calendar for ALA Euclid and ALA Tech.


3RD-8TH GRADE GIRLS ON THE RUN

Girls on the Run Fall Season (3rd-8th) Registration is now open! HERE is the link to find more information.


UPCOMING SAISD FOOD DISTRIBUTION

SAISD will be hosting a food distribution event in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank. This will take place on Saturday, September 14 at 9 a.m. at Sam Houston HS, located at 4635 E. Houston St., 78220. All SAISD families will be welcome to access food at this event.

NWEA MAP TESTING

NWEA MAP testing is an assessment that helps us understand your child’s current academic level in math and reading; it helps us tailor their learning experience to meet their needs and observe how much growth students have from the beginning of the year, to the middle and end of the year. Kinder through 3rd graders participate in our MAP testing. Math MAP testing will occur on Wednesday 8/28 and our Reading MAP testing will take place on Thursday, 8/29. Please help your students be ready by getting a good night’s rest.


PreK GATORS ARE BACK

Dear Pre-K Families, Please join us for a wonderful afternoon spent with your child’s amazing teacher learning about what makes ALA so special and learn how you can contribute to your child’s success as you begin this year’s journey!

6th-12th GRADE OFFICE HOURS

Office Hours is a valuable time for tutoring offered by our teachers on a regular basis beginning the week of August 26th. Office Hours/Tutoring times for 6th-12th grade students can be found on our family-facing Office Hours Overview linked HERE. Students choose to attend office hours for a variety of reasons. For instance, some students attend to receive instruction if they were absent, others attend to ask questions about an assignment or material from class, and some students appreciate a space to complete work at school before transitioning to home. Our use of the term Office Hours, a college term, is intentional as we want to build in our students the habit of visiting their teachers to pose questions, discuss material, and build relationships, all key behaviors for success in schools.


8th-12th GRADE PROGRESS REPORTS

Progress reports will be available for 8th-12th grade families on Frontline next week by Wednesday, September 4th. These can be viewed through the Parent Portal. The Frontline Parent Portal linked HERE can be used to view your child’s attendance, grades (8th-12th grade only), and schedule. It can also be used to contact your child’s teacher by email and receive important notifications on your phone. This flier (English & Spanish) contains directions for setting up your Parent Portal account and will provide families with information about the Frontline App. More information can also be found on the Frontline Parent Portal SAISD webpage.


SAVE THE DATE: 8TH-12TH GRADE GATORS ARE BACK

Save the Date for our 8th-12th Grade Gators Are Back event on Thursday, September 26th from 5pm-6:30pm! This will be a time for our 8th-12th Grade families to tour their child’s classes, meet their teachers and learn important information about upcoming grade-level travel experiences.


EARLY PICK-UP

Early Pick-Up forms can be filled out by families to notify the ALA Tech front office that you will be picking up your student early for a doctor's appointment or other circumstances.

Middle School 7 on 7 Football and Volleyball second games of the season:

HS Water Polo will play John Jay HS @ SWISD Natatorium, Aug. 30 at 5:00 (Boys) and 6:00 (Girls)


All athletic tickets for SAISD venues will be purchased through Hometown Ticketing. NO CASH will be accepted at the gate.

THEATER UPDATES

On Friday, September 13th, our ALA freshman students will be taking a field trip to the Patterson Performing Arts Center to attend an original play, Taffola Toro: Three Years of Fear performed, collaboratively designed, run, and adapted from the novel written by a local author, Lorenzo Gomez III, by our ALA and CAST Tech theater students in collaboration with CAST Network. At the event we will introduce our 9th graders across the CAST Network to the topic of mental health and positive relationships through a performance of this play and hold an open conversation with the players and the author following the production. Additionally, on Thursday, September 12th, we will offer a performance for our community. We will send details and ticket information out soon! So, Save the Date and See you Soon!!
