News for January 16, 2025
- This is a link to our updated Calendar of Events.
Dear Little Canada Families,
We hope you are staying warm this week! We had to have indoor recess two days this week, and everyone was excited to go outside once temperatures allowed for outdoor recess later in the week!
Recess During Winter:
During winter it is important that the students wear clothing appropriate for the weather (hat, gloves or mittens, scarf, boots, etc.) Students will be outside for recess everyday unless the temperature is below zero degrees, between -10 to -15 windchill or there is precipitation. Weather reports are consulted before sending students outside and cold days. Boots need to be worn usually from the first snow until the playground dries up in spring. The boots keep the feet dry and keep the snow and dirt from being tracked into the classrooms.
Winter Assessments:
Winter Screening has started this week! We are currently doing FAST assessments in Reading and Writing, which will then inform our progress towards our School Improvement Plan goals. We will share our progress towards our SIP goals soon.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
We have conferences coming up in February. The dates are February 4, 6, and 13. You will be hearing from your classroom teachers in the next week or two with an invitation to register for a conference.
DLSI Information Night:
We have our next DLSI information night coming up on Tuesday, January 28. These information nights are open to all families in the DLSI program, who currently have students at Little Canada. The focus of this upcoming information night will be on STAMP assessment, grade 6 as well as information about programing at RAMS and RAHS. Teresa Chavez (LC DLSI Coordinator) and María Delgado (Secondary DLSI Coordinator) will be leading this meeting.
Here’s to a wonderful new year together!
Best Regards,
Dr. Becerra and Mrs. Keleny

Roseville Area Schools is asking students in grade 5 to participate in the 2025 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS). The MSS is conducted in schools across our state every three years.
Questions on the survey are about many topics relating to young people’s lives. The survey asks about how well school is going, future plans, out-of-school activities, physical and mental health, relationships, substance use and more. This useful information about their thoughts and behaviors helps communities and schools develop effective programs and provide better services.
The survey is anonymous. To prevent individuals or families from being identified, students do not provide their names, student identification numbers or personal information.
The survey is voluntary. You may choose to have your child not take the survey by completing and returning the form below. Students may also decline to take any part of the survey or the whole survey. They are informed of that option by staff.
You have the right to review a copy of the survey. For details on how to do this or for any other questions about the survey, please contact Lindsay Most by email (lindsay.most@isd623.org) or by phone at 651-604-3742.
The Minnesota Student Survey will be administered at Little Canada on January 28.
If you do not want your child to take the Minnesota Student Survey, please complete this online form or call Lindsay Most (651-604-3742).
