Hello Jefferson Leadership Academy (JLA) families and caregivers,

Welcome back, and hello, 2025! I hope you and your family enjoyed the holidays and winter break. With only three weeks left in the semester, it is time for students to focus on their studies and turn in any missing assignments. Our JLA goal is for all students to work towards earning a C or higher in all classes to prepare them for high school and beyond.

January begins the High School Choice process for 8th-grade students. Starting this week, JLA is hosting the thematic high schools at lunch in the Library. These sessions are designed to provide our students (all grades) with an understanding of the high school pathways available to them. Please encourage your child to attend the sessions they want to learn more about.

I am excited to welcome a few new staff members to JLA for the new year. First is Ms. Badawi, our interim counselor, who will be full-time until Mr. Gonzalez returns. Ms. Rodriguez will return as a support staff member. We also have two new Recreational Aides, Miss Valerie and Mr. Joel, who joined us in December. Please welcome our staff members when you see them on campus.

Here are a few details as you prepare for this week at JLA:

Regular Day Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00-2:40
Thematic High School Student Session: Library @ Lunch

Renaissance: Monday
Browning: Tuesday 8th grade Lunch only
Sato Academy: Wednesday

College Shirt Friday: Friday

Picking Up Students Early

When picking up your student before school dismissal, please plan to pick up your student before or after the lunch period. To support lunch supervision, all support staff are unavailable, and we will not be able to release students who are at lunch. Please plan ahead and pick up your student before or after lunch.

8th grade Parents- It's time to start thinking about the process of selecting a high school for your student. This is a very important and exciting time. Here is the schedule for the high school choice site nights where you will be able to visit and learn about our LBUSD high schools!
