PSAT Testing
The PSAT is the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The PSAT is a great primer for the SAT, and even the ACT, but it’s more than just a trial run. PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships!
On Thursday, October 19th, eighth grade students will take the PSAT 8/9. Please keep in mind, if an eighth-grade student checks out during PSAT testing, the student cannot return and restart. Also, if a student arrives after the start of the test, they will not be able to take the test. No make-up day is provided for the PSAT 8/9. If your child is a car rider, please have them dropped off by 8:50 am. Testing will begin promptly at 9:10. Seventh graders will remain on a regular bell schedule.
This year, the PSAT 8/9 will be administered in a new digital format that will provide an overall easier testing experience for students. Your child will take the PSAT 8/9 using a device provided to them and scores will be released in mid-November.
Information about the PSAT 8/9
- It serves as a baseline for understanding students’ progress as they enter high school.
- It is an early indicator of college readiness that is aligned with the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT.
- The scores from the test will be used for students applying to the high school academies.
- The PSAT 8/9 will include grade-level appropriate content for eighth and ninth graders that will match the scope and difficulty of work found in the classroom. The test content is aligned with the TEKS.
- There is no preparation for this test.
- No make-up day is provided for the PSAT 8/9.

See You at the Pole 2023
See You at the Pole is the global day of student prayer. This grass roots prayer rally began in 1990 with ten students praying at their school. Now, decades later, millions pray on their campuses on the fourth Wednesday in September.
See You at the Pole is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God. See You at the Pole is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.

Lockdown Drill
Next week on Tuesday Oct. 3rd, we are going to practice our Lockdown Drill. We practice this drill to make sure we are ready in the event that anything should ever happen. Many times when we have to go into a lockdown, it is to keep the bad guys out of our building. Conroe ISD has already ensured that our building is safe through 120 video camera’s that are watched by Officer Quiller and the front desk during the school day. Additionally, adults entering our school have their ID cards scanned and checked as they enter.
During a lockdown drill you will hear “ALL PERSONNEL, LOCKDOWN THE BUILDING”. When you hear this your teacher will instruct you where to go in the classroom. You will remain there while we conduct the drill. Just like class, there should be no cell phones out during the drill. Don’t ever open the door if someone knocks, remember the good guys have keys. You will remain where the teacher will seat you until you hear “ALL CLEAR”. I want to emphasize that this is just a drill and I anticipate never having to use this drill, but in the event that something should happen here at Moorhead Junior High we will be prepared.

CONROE ISD Football game policy
Hello, Panther Community!
Football season is here and our Caney Creek Panthers love having the support of our community cheering in the stands!
To increase safety at our varsity football games, students in grades K-8 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian to enter football games. This change in practice is due in part to a rise in incidents involving unsupervised K-8 students at CISD football games. These changes are effective immediately and will be enforced at the upcoming football game on Friday, September 29, 2023. We also expect all spectators to remain in the stands unless they are going to the restroom, the concession stand, or exiting the stadium.
We understand this change in practice may interrupt normal plans for event attendance, but we want to ensure that all attendees have an enjoyable and safe experience.
We also want to remind you of some important policies when at our stadiums:
- Outside food and drinks are not allowed in the stadium.
- No spectators are allowed on the field before or after the game.
- Fans are not allowed to congregate under the stands.
- Stadiums open 1 hour prior to kickoff.
- Only CLEAR backpacks and handbags are allowed to be brought into the stadium.
For a full list of Conroe ISD stadium policies and more information surrounding the clear bag policy, follow this link Conroe ISD Stadium Policies. We appreciate your support!

Please help
We need your help with the student dress code. Specifically, we have a number of female students wearing crop tops to school and wearing a zip up hoodie over the crop top. The problem is they don't keep the hoodie zipped up.
We are going to start sending these young ladies home. Please help us out and don't let your daughters come to school wearing these short shirts.
A Note from Nurse Toni
Our school will do spinal screenings on October 25th and 26th, 2023..
State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule:
â—Ź Girls will be screened two times, once at age 10 (or 5th grade) and again at age 12 (or 7th grade).
â—Ź Boys will be screened one time at age 13 or 14 (or 8th grade).
Trained screeners will check your child for signs of spinal problems like scoliosis. Catching a spinal problem early can make the treatment much easier. Not treating spinal problems can lead to serious health problems. The screening is simple. Screeners will look at your child’s back while she stands and bends forward.
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Girls will need to wear a bra or cami for examination.
- Boys and girls will be screened separately and individually.
The school will send you a letter if your child does not pass the screening. This screening is not a medical exam. Your child still needs to see a doctor for checkups.
â—Ź If you DO NOT wish to have your child screened for any reason, you must submit an exemption in writing to the school nurse no later than Monday, October 9, 2023. Your student WILL BE screened otherwise.
Vision and hearing referrals will be sent out he first week of October.
No School on Oct. 6 and Oct. 9
October 6 and 9 are student holidays.

Does your child need help with homework or getting caught up?
The Student Success Center (SSC) is open Monday through Thursday from 4:30pm to 5:10pm. Students staying after school for tutorials can be picked up in front of the school or can ride the late bus home. Late buses depart Moorhead at 5:30pm.
Student Success Center Expectations
· Long before 4:30pm students should know how they are getting home (car or late bus); in other words, they do not decide at 4:00 that they need to stay for tutorials.
· 4:05 – Students report to the cafeteria after school and wait for their teacher to pick them up for tutoring.
· Students should have an E-Hallpass for tutorials.
· · Electronic devices are not allowed unless a tutor or SSC facilitator has given permission to use them.
· Students must ask the SSC facilitator for permission to use the restroom.
· Car riders and late bus riders are dismissed at 5:10pm.
TELPAS News
TELPAS is the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System. It is an annual assessment for students who have been identified as English Language Learners. Our school now has access to a great resource for helping our students improve their listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary and English language development skills. The school district has purchased licenses for a web-based program called Summit K12, which is accessible to students from school and home. If you have Internet access, your child can access Summit K12 from home as well as school to build foundational language skills, expand their vocabulary and content knowledge, improve their listening and speaking skills while also preparing for the annual TELPAS state assessment. The enclosed sheet provides an overview of the program. We are excited about the potential benefits this program can bring to our students, and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity by encouraging your child to use Summit K12 from home. Your child has been given login credentials to the Summit K12 online course. Please let us know if you have any questions or need any assistance accessing the online course.
Anonymous Alerts
Conroe ISD will continue implementation of the Anonymous Alerts – anti bullying app. Anonymous Alerts is a patented student anti-bullying app that helps combat bullying and other negative activity in schools by empowering students to come forward to help themselves and other students. Social and peer pressures are some of the hardest obstacles for students to overcome, now they can report bullying and safety issues quickly using Anonymous Alerts mobile app.
Students or parents in the school community can anonymously submit alerts about suspicious activity, safety threats, bullying, alcohol or drug use, harassment, family issues, school shooter, campus safety concerns, and self-harm issues to school administrators or counselors. The app is free from the Apple Store, Google Play store, and the Chrome store. Students will still have the option to call Kid Chat to report anything at 1-888-kid-chat.
