The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
Can you believe that we have just passed the halfway mark of the school year? I hope that your holidays brought you much joy and rest, and I am excited to see La Porte ISD classrooms buzzing once again with activity. We enjoyed remarkable success over the past few months, and the Spring Semester promises much of the same.
In only a couple of weeks, it's curtains up for the 2024 La Porte High School Musical, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Next month, the La Porte Education Foundation is bringing back the Harlem Wizards to take on the La Porte Hoop Dogs. Meanwhile, our basketball, soccer and swim teams are well into their seasons, and our track, baseball and softball teams take to the fields and lanes in just weeks.
Earlier this school year, Niche awarded La Porte ISD its top ratings. I am proud to announce that U.S. News & World Report has more recently bestowed honors upon six of our elementary schools. These accolades would not be possible without a collective commitment to excellence by everyone — instructional staff, students, parents, administration, and our Board of Trustees.
Speaking of our Board, January is School Board Recognition Month in Texas, and I want to express my deepest gratitude to our Trustees for their unwavering dedication. Our Board plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of our community, but their role extends far beyond the confines of board meetings and policy discussions. These leaders are champions of innovation, equity, and inclusivity. They navigate complex challenges, make informed decisions, and strive to create an environment where every student can thrive.
During School Board Recognition Month, I encourage each of you to take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the invaluable contributions of our Board of Trustees. Whether it's attending a school event, sending a note of thanks, or simply expressing your gratitude in passing, your recognition will undoubtedly resonate with these individuals who dedicate themselves to the betterment of our schools.
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

LP Bond 2023
Though LP Bond 2023 includes many much larger projects, we have focused our early efforts on playground upgrades and replacements at several of our campuses. After all, playgrounds are an ideal place for children to interact with others and build friendships outside of the classroom.
And they're fun!
These are photos from the recent playground upgrades at La Porte Elementary School. We are hard at work upgrading playgrounds across the district.
First 'Board Walk' of 2024
Trustees David Janda and Dee Anne Thomson conducted the first Board Walk of the new year this morning at The Academy of Viola DeWalt High School. Accompanied by Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Brown, the group had an opportunity to see students participate in their Friday clubs, including the guitar and sewing clubs and the open gymnasium, where students are invited to run off some energy with some basketball and some indoor touch football.
