Friday Family Message
Hello Families
Thank you to to everyone involved in helping make our second annual Kindergarten Fair a fun, welcoming introduction to school for our incoming kindergarteners!
We had about 150 families attend to get registration information, learn about resources, meet their principal, get photos with mascots and cheerleaders, and much more!
Meanwhile, please help us inform families they can register their new students online at www.stanwood.wednet.edu/welcome
Elger Bay principal search update
We appreciate the community participation in our recent survey to collect the desired traits and characteristics of a new Elger Bay principal.
After screening applicants early next week, we plan to host a community forum from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in the Elger Bay Elementary gym.
Read more about these staffing changes on our district website.
Free Summer Meals available
Good nutrition is essential for effective learning every day — all year long. Just as learning does not end when school lets out, neither does the need for good nutrition. Summer meal programs help children get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the summer months.
The Stanwood-Camano School District is again offering its free Summer Food Service Program for all children ages 18 and younger. The program is open to all families and doesn’t ask for any paperwork — kids can just drop in and grab a meal.
The summer meal program will be offered Monday through Friday at the following locations:
Twin City Elementary (26211 72nd Ave. NW, Stanwood, WA 98292)
- Dates: June 24 - August 23
- Breakfast: 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m.
- Lunch: 10:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Dates: July 29 - August 23
Breakfast: 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Lunch: 10:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
This federally-funded program is sponsored by many organizations throughout our state. Children may participate in summer meals programs outside of their communities.
To find a site near you, please use a Summer Meals Locator at nokidhungry.org or text "food" or "comida" to 304-304.
In addition, the Stanwood-Camano Food Bank is offering food for all families with school-aged youth, beginning June 19.
This Summer Food Program will offer a rotating menu of staple items to help supplement food needs for kids while school is out of session.
Families can pick up Summer Food at the Stanwood-Camano Food Bank from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesdays and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.
For more information, visit our Food Services webpage at www.stanwood.wednet.edu.
Water Quality update
As we communicated to families and the community earlier this week, Washington state law now requires that by 2026 drinking water in all K-12 public schools built before 2016 be tested for lead and meet a new, lower threshold of parts per billion (ppb) than previously required.
Stanwood-Camano School District’s previous water quality tests conducted in 2016-2018 at all school buildings were within water quality standards for that time.
As part of our commitment to ensuring the health of our students and staff is protected, the Stanwood-Camano School District took advantage of state funding and volunteered to participate in a new state water testing program before this deadline. Testing began in April.
Please read about the initial test results, find link to each school's results as we receive them from the state, and see the district's next steps on our Water Quality webpage at www.stanwood.wednet.edu/about/water_quality
