March 2025
Message from School Leadership
Positive Astros Families,
In March, one of the words we focus on is mindful. Mindful or Mindfulness is a skill that we can grow and develop. With the help of the 7 Habits, we teach mindfulness skills that help students to pause, breathe, and notice before responding. March is also the month that we celebrate the birth of Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss gave us many great characters and books to enjoy. Dr. Seuss gave even more with his books' great themes and messages. He even gave us advice to explore the world.
When thinking of being mindful, Dr. Seuss said this famous quote: “You have BRAINS in your HEAD. You have FEET in your SHOES. You can STEER yourself any DIRECTION you CHOOSE.” This quote reminds us that we must own our choices and respond in a way that is mindful of the consequences. The Leader in Me program teaches us to make more mindful choices by practicing habits such as Habit 4- Think Win-Win and Habit 5- Seek First to Understand and Then to be Understood. We can practice these habits by taking a full breath in and out before we reply to others, focusing on what makes us and others happy, and even cultivating a feeling of loving-kindness toward others. As we move through March, remember to pause, breathe, and notice all the good things happening here at NAE. Some of the good things we see are the hard work of our staff and students daily, the love and support of parents and guardians, and the support from our Community Partners. Please note that we are grateful for all our Positive Astros. They truly create the happiness we need to continue moving forward.
We have our last Student-Led Conference of the school year in March. This Conference is going to look different this time. Please see the details below. We hope everyone enjoys their spring break from March 17th to 24th, with students returning on March 25th. Please stay safe and remain healthy.
As always, thank you for ALL that you do to share in our success. We appreciate your continued support. Finally, in the words of Dr. Seuss, “You’re off to great places. Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So…get on your way!”
