Panther Pride News
Week of May 10, 2024
From the desk of Principal Marquand
Families:
We are in our final full week of the 23/24 school year! Second semester almost seems like a blur! As we continue our end of the year celebrations, this week we look towards our final performances by our music department along with 7th grade Kite Day on Friday, May 17.
On Monday, May 20, we will clean out lockers and hand out yearbooks. Finally, Wednesday, May 22, we will have our 8th Grade Bash. The Mears PTSA is looking for volunteers to make this event successful, please reach out to them if you are able to help and volunteer. In addition, we will host our annual spirit olympics in the gymnasium to bring this year to healthy and positive close for all Mears students.
All the best,
Principal Marquand

Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week at Mears
On behalf of the staff at Mears Middle School, a huge thank you to the PTSA and to all the families that donated gift cards and tasty treats during the week for the staff to enjoy! We also appreciated your FaceBook Votes for the Kaladi Brothers Community Cafe to brew up hot beverages to show us we are appreciated a whole latte! 🎉
Panther Pride: Track and Field Champions
Track Season has come to a close and the Mears students had a great season. We had many students who finished in the top 10 at the Championships as well as a few who won individual GOLD!
Mears also had two Championship relay teams. The 7th grade girls 4x100 (56.38) and the 7th grade boys 4x400 (4:27.3). Congratulations to all!

Team Echo:
English Language Arts: The last final assessment presentations were truly positive. Students designed informational presentations on Holocaust-related topics and presented them with an original speech related to their slideshow.
Currently, students are working on their final assessment writing and publishing an original podcast. Analyzing podcasts, researching topics, interviewing others, and script writing are the daily work. Next week, students will start recording and editing their work.

We are looking for "We the People" judges for Tuesday May 14th (Regular Groups) and Thursday May 16th (Advanced Groups), in two sessions, 8:30-11:00 and 11:30 to 2:00.

As a judge they would only need to participate in one session, but are welcome to stay for both sessions, if available. All materials will be provided.
If you are interested in being a judge or learning more about the program, Feel free to email Nick Middleton at middleton_nick@asdk12.org
