BCE PBIS Celebration

Dear Families,

As we close out another successful school year, we want to share some highlights about our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program and how it has positively impacted our school community.

Celebrating Positive Behavior

Throughout the year, our students consistently demonstrated our school-wide expectations: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. Staff recognized students for their positive choices by handing out Bear Paws.

• Over 20,000 Bear Paws were handed out this year!

• We hosted SEVEN Bear Paw Stores that kept students motivated and engaged.

• We created the BEAR BUZZ, a new student-run digital news program supported by our PBIS Tier 1 team. Bear Buzz is published monthly for our students and families.

Social-Emotional Learning & Skills

In addition to behavior expectations, we integrated lessons and conversations with students and families around:

• Offered Family Education- Your Spirited Child classes

• Hosted the Vigilant Parent Program at BCE to educate parents about online safety

• 30 Small Group and 1 on 1 counseling support groups worked with our Counseling Team

Data Snapshot

Our PBIS team tracked behavior data to identify trends and adjust supports:

• 49% decrease in playground behavior referrals from last year to this school year

• 50 students participated as Junior Coaches to help make recess safe and inclusive

• 44 students participated in our Check In-Check Out (CICO) program. This program provided students with daily positive feedback from a staff member in addition to their teacher. Students set and met behavioral and academic goals! 23 staff members worked as CICO coaches this year.

Looking Ahead

Next year, we plan to:

• Expand student voice in choosing items for our PBIS Bear Paw Store

• Continue our focus on creating a sense of belonging and safety at BCE. We are creating a Student Ambassador program to welcome and support new students.

• Work with the Boulder Creek Business Association to plan our second Kindness Parade in downtown Boulder Creek in January 2026 and expand our Social Emotional Themes to our community.
