Kids Heart Challenge - RESULTS
Stats as of Sunday, February 25th:
We are so proud of our Hoover students and families for doing such an amazing job with our 2024 Kids Heart Challenge! We're still accepting donations this week and there's time to register and complete Finn's Mission!
We are still short 33 students to make the goal of 200 students registered (or 9 more students to make the 54 students completing Finn's Mission), for students to be able to SILLY STRING selected staff. Even though we are technically "done," if we can get 9 more students to complete Finn's Mission OR 33 more students to just register -- we can still break out the silly string!! One last push!
Get started NOW:
Download the AHA Schools APP and Register (Download in the App Store or Get it on Google Play)
Click “Send a Message” and TEXT 10 Friends and Family asking for support.
Be a Heart Hero and Complete Finn’s Mission and learn TWO lifesaving skills as a family TONIGHT!
Or REGISTER HERE and Click “Sign Up”
Thank you so much for supporting our school and the American Heart Association!

Third Grade Dictionaries from the CR Rotary Club
Our third grade students were visited by very special guests, Coon Rapids Mayor Jerry Koch and Coon Rapids Police Chief Bill Steiner. Mayor Koch and Police Chief Steiner handed out dictionaries to each student and shared why it's important to have one and to know how to use one as a resource. Students were challenged to pronounce the longest word in the dictionary...did your 3rd-grade share it with you yet? Students also challenged themselves to learn the American Sign Language (ASL) alphabet using the guide provided in their dictionaries. We are so grateful to Mayor Koch, Police Chief Steiner and the Coon Rapids Rotary Club for the generous donation of dictionaries to our Hoover students.

Lost & Found - Last Week to Claim
Our Lost & Found at Hoover has grown A LOT! We have been reminding our students to check it regularly for their items.
Please take a look at the items in these pictures to see if they belong to your student(s). We moved them to the front of the building and had them out the past two weeks during conferences and throughout the day for students and families to look through. At the end of this week, Friday, March 1st, we will take what is left and donate them to our SSW and local organizations.

Service Learning and Community Action Projects
Hoover is home to two LAUNCH (Learners with Autism and Unique Learning Challenges) Center Based classrooms. Our students are intelligent and kind, persevering through obstacles and are ready for their next learning opportunity.
We are graciously requesting donations for a community-based learning experience for our unique learners. Items of need include perishable items such as: Coffee cup with lids, Granola bars, Tea Bags, Breakfast bars, Trail mix, Nuts (individual packages), and Dried Fruit. We can't wait to share pictures and videos of our this project with our Hoover community!
Please reach out to Ms. Thomas, Justena.Thomas@ahschools.us or Mr. Canaday, Cory.Canaday@ahschools.us, with any questions.
Thank you for supporting our unique learners!
Message from the Nurse's Office
Please send an extra pair of pants and underwear for your child in case there is an accident (bathroom, breakfast/lunch spill, etc.). The health office loves donations of gently used sweatpants and leggings sizes 5-10. We also appreciate new packs of underwear for boys and girls sizes 5-10.
The health office has free at home Covid tests. Email Darlene.Anderson@ahschools.us and we can send them home with your child.
Wondering if your child is well enough to come to school? Click here for more information.
If your child goes to the doctor or dentist, please request a doctor's note and send it with your child for attendance purposes.
Parent Educator, VSC, and PTO Updates
Parent Educator, Nichol Michaels - March Parent Press - Taking the Chore out of Chores
- Chores are important for kids to have. It teaches kids responsibilities and helps build their independent skills. Unfortunately, some kids don't want to put in the extra work. Starting at a young age, every person in the household should have chores. This shows kids that some tasks are done just because they are part of the family unit and it helps make the household run smoother. Here are some tips and activities for home, to help take the chore out of chores.
Volunteer Service Coordinator, Tina Fletcher - February VSC Newsletter
- Is your child's field trip coming up? Are you wanting to help with the Spring Carnival on May 3rd? Contribute time to Track and Field? Volunteer for activities during the school day?
- These are all big events that we love having volunteers to help with but we need to have a completed Hoover Volunteer Application on file along with a CRHR giving us permission to run a background check for those 18 years and older.
- Did you know you don't have to be an adult to volunteer?
- Yes, some volunteer opportunities require you to be an adult to volunteer for our school. But we do have several ways to volunteer for those who are 12 to 17 years old. Come volunteer as a family for big events like the Spring Carnival.
- Some other ways for teens to volunteer include:
- Workroom- copying, cutting, sorting, etc.
- PTO Childcare
- Spring Carnival
- Movie Nights
- Bingo Nights
- Reading Night, Math Night, and other school led events
- All that is needed is a Hoover Volunteer Application.
- Looking for ways to help our school and already have your forms completed or wanting to contribute to a wishlist for our school? Click this link to see current opportunities and needs!
