National Suicide Prevention Week
September 8-14 is National Suicide Prevention Week. During school this week, we will be building awareness and educating students about action steps they can take if they or someone they know is struggling. Students will have a brief lesson during homeroom/advisory, which will teach them about community and national resources available to them, as well as, how to utilize the QR code on the student ID badges. The QR code provides quick access to the ICCSD Support & Wellness Center website (iowacityschool.org/support) that houses a number of support resources available to everyone. We encourage you to ask your student(s) what they have been learning and check out our social media posts throughout the week for resources and information around suicide prevention.
What's been happening at Tate?
Orientation
During the first week of school, students were welcomed back with orientation and diagnostic testing. During orientation, students reviewed expectations that would help them be successful this school year. The diagnostic testing allowed students to show their current skills so teachers can help determine the appropriate next steps. We ended the week with our annual cookout celebration where students enjoyed sno-cones, trivia, prizes, and more!
We are so excited for a great year!
Classes
The first few days of classes are filled with introductions, relationship building, and getting back into the groove of school.
