Culutre Night Representation Needed
We are still in search of table representation for some cultures we love and admire here at Valentine Hills. Culture Night is April 24. If you are interested in hosting a table, please email Memory Heille. Remember to include and invite grandparents or other relatives to participate in our event that might have fun regalia, photos or traditions to share.
Here are just some of the cultures we would still love to host tables for:
Native American Tribal Nations
Irish
Scandinavian Countries
Russian
Slovenian
Kenyan
Ecuadorian
Colombian
Ukrainian
Cultures of India
...and more!

Current Band Students: (students going into 6th Grade)
When you begin to make your summer vacation plans, please keep in mind the summer band program offered for students going into 6th grade. For students who are currently playing in 5th grade band, INTRODUCTION TO MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND is a full band rehearsal offered Mondays-Thursdays for four weeks from 12:00-12:45 p.m. at Chippewa, Edgewood and Mounds View High School. The program concludes with a concert for parents the evening of the last day. Online registration will be available through Community Education beginning March 18.
4th Grade Parents: (of students going into 5th Grade)
Starting the summer after 4th grade, your child can begin participating in a curricular activity that continues through 12th grade and into adult life - THE SCHOOL BAND. The summer beginning band instruction program consists of 45-minute small-group lessons, Monday through Thursday, for four weeks starting Monday, July 7 through Thursday, July 31. The summer session concludes with a concert for parents the evening of the last day. Instruction will be offered at Island Lake, Turtle Lake, and Edgewood during the mornings and at Chippewa and Highview, and Edgewood in the evenings. Students may choose from the following band instruments: Trombone, Baritone, Clarinet, Trumpet, French Horn, Flute, Saxophone, Tuba and Percussion. School instruments are available for students with financial need. Your school band teacher will be sending information home with your child in March. Specific information about summer band class times and locations will be available at that time.
A WORD OF CAUTION:
There has been a recent outbreak in instrument sales from non-music vendors (department store catalogs, discount membership warehouses, on-line purchases and private party sales). These instruments are often inexpensive and poorly constructed. These instruments generally require frequent repairs that cannot be corrected and we encourage you to stay clear of these options. Reputable music dealers are the best resource for renting or purchasing a band instrument. Please see your school band director if you have questions about purchasing an instrument.

Cell Phone Policy Approved
During the last legislative session, the Minnesota Legislature directed all school districts to adopt a cell phone policy by March 15, 2025. In response, the School Board asked the
community to provide feedback regarding student use of cell phones in schools. About 3,000 respondents completed a survey, and two community conversations attracted about
200 attendees.
This feedback was shared with a cell phone advisory committee made up of parents, students and staff. The group met three times last fall, and identified themes found in the responses and provided recommendations to the School Board at its December meeting.
At its meeting on March 6, the Board approved a policy effective March 15 that reflects the group’s recommendations:
Elementary schools
• Students should not access or use cell phones during school hours.
Secondary (middle and high schools)
• Students should not access or use cell phones during scheduled academic class time or during activities/assemblies when instruction or information is being delivered.
• Secondary students may access and use cell phones during non-academic or unscheduled time during school hours.
Watch a brief video about the cell phone policy engagement process.
