Guest Speaker Billie Botes
Billie Botes is a 2019 Mercer High School graduate and a member of the United States Air Force Academy Class of 2025. On Monday, October 14th, she will be sharing her experiences of graduating from Mercer High School, attending a year at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School, and finally, the United States Air Force Academy. As a cadet who is studying Behavioral Sciences with a minor in Chinese Mandarin, she will highlight her failures, obstacles, opportunities, successes, and what she has learned along the way to help her earn a spot for a career in USAF Intelligence.
College and Career Day
On Friday, October 11, our 8th-grade students visited Nicolet College alongside Ms. Kopka, our school counselor, to explore potential future college and career paths.
The visit included hands-on demonstrations from various programs. The Culinary Arts program wowed students with a flambé presentation, while the Electromechanical program showcased an impressive robotic arm. In the Nursing program, students observed a life-like manikin used to simulate real patient care.
As part of the Public Safety program, students learned how to operate a fire extinguisher, watched a demonstration of firefighting equipment, and discovered the different levels of training required to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).
Other highlights of the campus tour included visits to the Automotive Technician, Early Childhood Education, Welding, Cosmetology, and Information Technology programs. It was a valuable experience for students to begin thinking about their future academic and career options.

Homecoming
This year’s Homecoming was a splash hit with the theme “Under the Sea”! Students decorated the banquet hall at The Great Northern Hotel to align with the theme.
The week was filled with spirit days and culminated with the Homecoming dance on Saturday, October 12, where students danced in their finest attire to the music of DJ Mike Bever.
Congratulations to the Homecoming Court, and thank you to all the students and staff who made this event unforgettable!

Pink Out & Parent's Night
On Wednesday, the varsity and JV volleyball teams faced off against Mellen in an exciting match. Both teams entered the match undefeated in the Northern Lights Conference. Our varsity team came out on top, winning 3 sets to 1 with set scores of 25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 25-11. The JV teams tied 1-1. Mercer players wore pink as part of the Dig Pink event to promote breast cancer awareness.
The evening also featured Parent Night, where parents were honored and thanked for their ongoing support, which allows students to participate in athletics. It was a great night of competition, community, and cause.

Attendance Matters
For children and teens, attending school isn’t just about getting an education. It’s about developing their whole selves—emotionally, socially, and personally.
Attending school regularly and in person gives students the ability to follow daily routines, as well as connect with friends, peers, teachers, and others outside their family circle. They’re able to engage and interact, to use their brains and try new things. They can be part of a team. They have a purpose.
Help your child be their best self. Promote good attendance.
