Bulletin w/c 10th March - Week 2
Congratulations to our Head Student Team 2025/26
The votes have been counted and the results are in ... welcome to our new Head Student Team:
Head Students: Annie Gill and Louis Porter
Deputy Head Students: Grace Coombes and Amelie Knight
We look forward to working with our new team and supporting them with their leadership roles and legacy projects over the next year.
We would also like to share this story recently published in the Ingatestone Parish Council about the project that Louis undertook for his Citizenship GCSE. During the months after his exams, he continued to work with the Parish Council on a way to reduce the use of plastic bags in Ingatestone and the "Bag Borrowing Scheme" opened a couple of weeks ago. Read further about how this marvellous idea has now come to fruition - well done Louis!
Intermediate Maths Challenge
Congratulations to all Year 9, 10 and 11 students who took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge. We had seven students awarded a gold certificate, fifteen with a silver, twenty three with a bronze. One student has been invited to progress further in the competition, which is fabulous and we wish them well.
The Junior Maths Challenge for Year 7 and 8 students is on 1st May so get working on those Maths problems!
Charities Week
Every day this week Year 8 students have set up their stalls in order to raise money for the three school charities. This has given them a chance to practice valuable skills such as teamwork, budgeting, marketing and customer service. Once the total funds raised has been finalised, we will share this. They have been set a minimum target of £1,000. The students have worked diligently and responsibly to plan, organise and run activities this week sharing their impressive skills as active citizens. The week culminated in our annual International Day - lots of photos to see next week!
Sponsored Walk
Congratulations to all who took part in our sponsored walk.
A grand total of 274 laps @ 300 m per lap = 82,200 metres.
As the crow flies from the school this equate to almost the Isle of Sheppey!
Special mention to Ryan Jackson who ran the laps as well as Abbie Kirby, Chloe Smith and Grace Meadows who completed 10 laps each!
Tom Smith Cup
History Essay
We held our annual History essay awards evening on Tuesday 4th March, kindly organised through the Ingatestone and Fryerning Historical and Archaeological Society. There was a change of venue this year with the presentation being held at the Anglo in the main hall. The three winners, who were presented their prizes by Lord Petre, were: Summer in first place with an essay on Medieval queens; Ohemaa in second place with an essay on the Flora Hastings scandal, and Mary in third place with an essay on the rise of Stalin. Each student gave a presentation on their essay explaining their motivations, the parameters of the work, their sources of evidence and the historical context associated with the topic. They then fielded some very interesting questions from the supportive audience. It was a fantastic evening of historical discourse. We look forward to continuing this long-standing association next year.
World Book Day
Students enjoyed looking at the display featuring favourite childhood books of members of staff. From "Little Women" to Roald Dahl, the selection was impressive and not dissimilar to what students enjoy today.
The Brilliant Club
As reported on last week, below is a photo of the Year 9 students receiving their certificates at the graduation ceremony at the Magdalene College. Congratulations!
Model United Nations Conference at Felsted
Our Lower Sixth CAS Model United Nations group took part in Felsted School's annual MUN conference this week. They represented Germany and Afghanistan. Special mention to Joshua, who took to the stage multiple times to address the entire General Assembly, and eloquently answered points of reply from various nations! This was a fantastic experience for all the students.
Long Term Cadiz Students
Six of our Year 10 students have had a fantastic first couple of days as part of their Long Term Exchange to Spain based in Puerto Real near Cadiz. They were straight into lessons, and impressed the staff with their grasp of the language and got stuck in with a kidney dissection in their biology lesson. We're looking forward to seeing what else they learn during their time in Spain getting the full immersion offered by spending their time in the Spanish school.
Ramadan Mubarak
Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, began on March 1st and will continue until March 30th/31st. During this time, many Muslim students, families and staff in our school community will be fasting, which means they will refrain from food and drink from dawn to sunset each day.
This change in routine can mean that some students may experience tiredness or thirst, particularly as the day progresses. We encourage everyone to be mindful and supportive of their fasting peers during this time.
If you or your child is fasting and needs any support at school, please feel free to reach out to us. We appreciate the diversity within our school community and encourage understanding and respect for all religious observances.
Wishing Ramadan Mubarak to all those partaking!
Please see below an invitation from Ingatestone & Fryerning Junior School.
Chinese Workshop at Primary School
Miss Zi, our CLEC teacher visited Ingatestone Primary School to support them to make traditional Chinese snacks: tanghulu. The students were very enthusiastic and loved the end result!
Supporting the School
Thank you to all our parents who have paid the parental contribution as detailed in our previous bulletin. If you have not yet paid your contribution please could you pay this term so that we can ensure that extra-curricular events are not affected by lack of funds, such as Study Club, transport costs for sports fixtures and visits, guest speakers, work-related learning, and careers education and health, pastoral and counselling services.
As a reminder, to maintain this distinctive offer, we suggest a parental contribution of £60 per annum (or £20 per term). If every family contributes, we can continue to provide these vital extras that make our school unique. If you haven’t made a gift aid contribution this year, please click the following link. Please note that if you agree to Gift Aid your donation, these are especially impactful, as they allow us to claim an additional 25p for every £1 donated. Please note that in agreeing to gift aid, you are confirming the following statement.
"I am a UK taxpayer and understand that, if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the current year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations, it is my responsibility to pay any difference. Please treat as gift aid donation, all qualifying gifts of money made from the date of this declaration."
