Dear Deer Hill Families,

On Monday our country will honor the veterans who have served through the years. Our town celebration will begin at 11:00 in Veteran's Memorial Park at Cohasset Harbor, and it will include readings by our annual grade 5 writing contest winners. On Tuesday, we'll continue our tradition of honoring veterans at Deer Hill with our Veterans Assembly. Students are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue to share their patriotic spirit and support of those who have served, and we're excited to have several veterans with ties to our school community join us as honored guests!

Spring 2025 MCAS Dates: Our MCAS dates for spring have been calendared, and we need your help! When students are absent for MCAS it creates a domino effect as staff resources and class time must be taken to complete makeup exams. This impacts the learning of not only the absent students but also other students who rely on staff supports. While illness is unavoidable, please make every effort to not schedule appointments or planned absences on testing days. My hope is that with this advance notice we can ensure high attendance during MCAS.

ELA MCAS: April 10 & 11
Science MCAS (grade 5 only): May 7 & 8
Math MCAS: May 14 & 15

NHS Homework Help at the Paul Pratt Library: The Cohasset High School National Honor Society is ready to help with homework. Attendance has been low, and it would be too bad to lose this resource. See the flyer at the end of this newsletter.

Deer Hill Circus Tickets: Click on the flyer below to purchase t-shirts (5th grade students) and tickets (all families are welcome!) to the 5th grade performance of the Deer Hill Circus.

Deer Hill Happenings

Deer Teams & Monday Meet Up Mash Up: Earlier this year, our Deer Teams read the book Boxes for Katje about a community in Indiana that comes together for a community in Holland after World War II. To show their gratitude, the Dutch town sends tulip bulbs to their benefactors. On Monday, our 36 Deer Teams came together in the courtyard and planted tulips as a symbol of our strong commUNITY. Every staff member and student also received a tulip bulb to plant elsewhere in the hopes of bringing a smile to others. Many thanks to our extraordinary garden volunteer, Dee Riley, who donated 500 tulip bulbs and assisted us in our planting!

School Committee Spotlight: Deer Hill was excited to host Wednesday's School Committee meeting where Mrs. Clark and several of her 3rd graders spoke about and demonstrated the value (and fun!) of our PLAY initiative at Deer Hill.

Deer Hill Base Program: Our before and after school enrichment program is in full swing with a variety of classes from analyzing Taylor Swift lyrics, to math art, chess, clay slides, and Lego WeBuild.

Other Happenings

Grade 5 made butter during Spooky Science. This week it was put to good use in the cafeteria's broccoli chicken pasta!

The PSO hosted Walker Between Worlds: Native American Storytelling for grade 3 students

Once a week, our cafeteria now has fresh squeezed OJ at breakfast!

Today 4th graders had a larger than life geography lesson with the Earthview Program. Thank you, PSO!

CEF Auction Winners: Brothers Brody and Tanner Baker got to "Hang with Hugo" for the morning because their family had the winning bid at our recent CEF fundraiser. After some morning pets and greeting arriving students, the boys joined Hugo on classroom walkthroughs before having a private lesson with Hugo's trainer, Corey Steinberg. Word on the street is that the Bakers are considering getting their first puppy, and Hugo may have sealed the deal!
