Principal's Message
Campus Safety
I hope this message finds you well. As we embark on a new school year, I want to address some important matters that have arisen recently concerning our school community. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of every student, and it is crucial that we all work together to address these issues effectively.
Recent Concerns: Student Conflicts and Social Media
Over the past few weeks, we have noticed an increase in conflicts among students, some of which have been exacerbated by interactions on social media. These incidents have caused concern for both students and staff, and we want to take this opportunity to address the situation openly.
Student Conflicts: We have observed a rise in conflicts among students. These issues not only disrupt the learning environment but also pose safety risks. Our staff is committed to intervening promptly and providing support to those involved. We are also reinforcing our conflict resolution and mediation programs to help students resolve disagreements constructively.
Social Media Impact: Social media platforms have become a significant factor in escalating conflicts. We have seen instances where disagreements or rumors spread online have contributed to tension and confrontations on campus. It is important for students to understand the impact of their online behavior and to use social media responsibly.
What We Are Doing:
Increased Supervision: We are enhancing supervision during break times and in areas where conflicts have been reported. This will help us address issues before they escalate and ensure a safe environment for all students.
Educational Programs: We are expanding our efforts to educate students about the importance of respectful communication, both in person and online. This includes workshops on digital citizenship and the responsible use of social media.
Support Services: Our counseling team is available to provide support to students who may be struggling with personal issues or who have been involved in conflicts. We encourage students to seek help if they need it and to reach out to trusted adults.
How You Can Help:
Open Communication: Talk to your child about the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and the potential consequences of their actions, both offline and online. Encourage them to speak with a teacher, counselor, or other trusted adult if they are feeling upset or if they witness or are involved in a conflict.
Monitor Social Media Use: Keep an eye on your child’s social media activity and discuss the impact that online behavior can have. Emphasize the importance of thinking before posting and respecting others online.
Monitor Your Student's Technology: In meeting with parents, many are unaware of their student's misuse of their technology, and do not know the passwords to their student's phones.
Report Concerns: If you become aware of any issues or threats related to school safety, please report them to the administration immediately. Your vigilance helps us maintain a safe and supportive environment for everyone. Anyone may report their concerns anonymously on our website, or by clicking here.
Report Social Media Accounts and Posts: Please read below on how to report inappropriate/fake accounts and posts.
We are committed to working closely with parents and guardians to ensure that our school remains a safe and welcoming place for all students. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we address these challenges together.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school administration. We are here to support you and your child.
Sincerely,
Dr. Vikki Chavez

How To Report Inappropriate Social Media Posts and Accounts
What Parents Should Know about Students' Social Media Accounts
It’s not uncommon for students to have secret or hidden social media accounts. As a parent, being aware of this potential can help you guide and protect your child effectively. Here are some key points to consider:
Understand the Motivation: Students might create secret accounts for various reasons, such as wanting privacy from parents, fitting in with peers, or exploring their identity. Understanding their motivations can help address underlying concerns or issues.
Open Communication: Encourage open dialogue about social media use. Foster an environment where your child feels comfortable sharing their online activities with you. Instead of focusing solely on the existence of secret accounts, discuss the reasons behind them and the importance of responsible online behavior.
Education and Guidance: Educate your child about the risks associated with having multiple or secret accounts, including privacy concerns and the potential for negative consequences. Teach them about digital footprints and the importance of maintaining a positive online presence.
Establish Trust: Building a trusting relationship is crucial. If your child feels they can’t share their online activities with you, they might be more inclined to keep secrets. Show that you are supportive and understanding rather than punitive.
Monitor and Set Limits: While it’s important to respect your child’s privacy, it’s also necessary to monitor their social media use to ensure their safety. Setting reasonable guidelines for screen time and online behavior can help balance freedom with oversight.
Know the Platforms: Familiarize yourself with the social media platforms your child uses. Understanding the features, privacy settings, and potential risks of each platform can help you have more informed conversations and make better decisions about their online activities.
Look for Signs: Be aware of any changes in your child’s behavior, such as increased secrecy, anxiety, or changes in social dynamics. These can be indicators that they might be using secret accounts or dealing with online issues.
Privacy and Safety: Emphasize the importance of keeping personal information secure, regardless of the account's visibility. Teach them how to manage privacy settings and be cautious about sharing details online.
Involvement in Online Activities: Encourage your child to include you in their online life in a non-intrusive way. For example, you might ask to follow them on platforms where it’s appropriate or engage in discussions about their interests and activities.
Model Good Behavior: Demonstrate responsible social media use yourself. Your behavior can set an example for your child and underscore the importance of maintaining a positive online presence.
Know When to Involve Law Enforcement: If the posts or texts involve threats of violence, stalking, or other criminal behavior, it may be necessary to involve law enforcement to ensure the student’s safety. Please do not hesitate to contact your local police department to report your concerns.
Ultimately, finding a balance between respecting your child's privacy and ensuring their safety is key. Open communication, education, and trust will help you navigate these challenges effectively.
