What's up at Western?
Western Coventry School Family Newsletter
Letter from the Principal
March 30, 2025
Dear Western Families,
We had a fantastic month celebrating our Westie Readers during Reading Month! Our students logged hundreds of minutes on their reading logs, and we wrapped up the celebration with an epic Vocabulary Parade and some fabulous guest readers. Thank you, families, for your incredible support in fostering a love of reading and for getting so creative and spirited throughout the month!
RICAS testing (our state assessment) begins this week. This is a chance for our students to show what they’ve learned and how much they’ve grown. Please help set them up for success by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, arrive at school on time, and come in with a positive mindset. Encourage them to do their best and remind them that we believe in them—and they should believe in themselves too!
Our after-school clubs are in full swing! Yearbook and Good News Club meet on Mondays, Greene Library is on Tuesdays, Girls on the Run meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, and STEM Stars (Grade 4) begins this Wednesday!
Can you believe we’re already heading into Quarter Four? Teachers are finalizing report card grades, which will be available on Aspen beginning April 11. Don't forget to complete your SurveyWorks! Send me a screenshot of your submission to be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card. The deadline has been extended to April 5.
Looking forward to a great week with our Westies!

🌎 Earth Day Projects - April 22nd 🌍
🌎 Earth Day Is Coming to Western Coventry! ♻️
On April 22, we invite our students to celebrate Earth Day with a project centered around this year’s theme: Learning About Recycling. This would make a great "April Break Project" for those who would like to participate. Your project will be displayed at Night of the Arts on 4/29. Our school focus this year will be on Recycling.
Encourage your Westie to explore the importance of recycling through community clean-ups, creative art made from recyclables, informative research, or awareness posters! You can build a dioramas, write an eco-pledge, and make a poster to inspire others to take care of our planet. Together, we’re helping students learn that small choices—like recycling—can make a big difference! 💚🌱
Attention: 5th Grade Families
This time of year brings some exciting milestones for our 5th graders as they prepare to "graduate" from Western! Can you believe it? Proud moments are ahead! Be sure to check this newsletter weekly for updates.

FILL OUT SURVEYWORKS!
Dear Parents:
The Rhode Island Department of Education is currently administering its annual SurveyWorks Family Survey, which is an opportunity for family members to provide feedback about our school community and our children’s opportunities to learn. The survey results are most useful when all families participate, so I am writing to ask you to participate in this survey.
Your views on matters like the safety of your child at school, the way students are taught, the condition of the school, and how connected you feel to this school are important. By taking this short survey, you can help our school leadership and school community to make improvements. Responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to any individual; no one can tie your responses back to you.
You can take the short survey online between now and March 31. To take the survey, visit: bit.ly/ridefamily. Choose your school from the dropdown list.
4 Easy Steps to Complete Your Family Survey
Step 1: Visit bit.ly/ridefamily
Step 2: You have now accessed the family survey. There is a drop-down menu in the top left-hand corner: select English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
Step 3: Click where it says select and look for your child’s school in the drop-down menu. Once you find the school, click on “Take this Survey.”
Step 4: For each question, select the answers that best apply to your experience and beliefs. Once finished, click “Submit,” and you are done!

GI symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea require dismissal and your child must be free of symptoms for at least 24 hours prior to return to school. We still have a bit of this going around, and are trying to ensure a germ free environment.
A fever is defined as 100.4 degrees or higher and a student must be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever reducing medicines like Tylenol or Ibuprofen in order to return to school.
As always, please be vigilant in looking for head lice and treat your child's hair if necessary. Feel free to reach out to Nurse Jess couroyerjessica@coventryschools.net with any questions.
Westie Wear Site
Our new Westie Wear site is live and ready to shop. The orders will be delivered directly to your home. Feedback on selection is ALWAYS appreciated. Let us know what you want added to the site. When shopping, notice that some items say "youth". If it doesn't say "youth", it refers to adult sizing.
