In 1977 Woody Allen said, “Showing up is 80% of life”. The secret is as simple as finding out what’s going on in your industry, your town, your specific trade, & showing up. There are more opportunities to see people in person these days than ever before. You just have to show up to take advantage of them. Can you remember a meeting where an important decision was being made, & noticed only a few people had attended? Those people made the effort to show up. As a result, they had more influence over the outcome than those who didn’t. Showing up is being present with your attention & intention. Committing to being all-in means that you are now making yourself open to opportunities that might never have happened otherwise. Where will you show up today?

City Council Actions: Accepted bid with Superior Bowen to realign Meadowlark/N. Jesse James intersection, widen & extend N. Jesse James Road, improving access to Miller Cabinets; Accepted bid with Layne & Granite to clean & rehabilitate three wells; Renewed agreement with Eastern Clay County Ambulance District to provide EMS response & Approved Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 42 as ratified by ESFD Bargaining Unit. Planning & Zoning Public Hearings: 1. SUP to store large equipment @ 300 Milwaukee, 2. SUP for renewal of short-term rental @ 512 Elms Blvd., 3. Request to vacate unbuilt subdivision on S. Titus.

The City has an Emergency Operations Plan that outlines actions to be taken by City Officials & cooperating private or volunteer organizations to prevent avoidable disasters & reduce the vulnerability of City residents to any disasters that may strike, to protect from the effects of disasters, respond effectively to the actual occurrence of disasters & provide for recovery in the aftermath of any emergency involving extensive damage. This is a multi-hazard, functional plan. Recently the plan has been used for our Public Health Emergency lasting 15 months, Power Failure at the beginning of the month, & Floods, just a few days ago. There are many other chapters covering other types of emergencies -- we are good now, let's stop at these three. Thank you Chief Joe Maddick for your leadership in coordinating our response to these emergencies & the hard work of all city employees who always give it their all. You are appreciated.

Celebrating Work Anniversaries this week: Sarah Davis, Fire Administrative Assistant - 7 years; Jeff Anderson, PR MWI - 4 years; Jennifer Van Campen, Group Fitness Instructor & Madison Krier, CC Front Desk - 1 year.

This week we celebrate the careers of Clint Reno with 27 years of service & Paul White with 24 years of service @ ESPD. Both men demonstrate the best example of public service & dedication to the Law Enforcement profession. I hold both individuals in high regard & wish only the best.

City & Ameren debriefed on wind storm to improve our response, this week we continued to clean up limbs from the storm. EMS is seeing an increase in COVID patients again, last week saw 2 patients daily with serious conditions. Community Center planning team toured the Merriam Aquatics facility this week & began preliminary discussion to start Business Planning. Flooding changed our weekend plans. Instead of enjoying WaterFest, we waited for the water to recede, so we could begin clean-up. The Opal Wapoo Bike Race organizers re-formatted to avoid areas that had flooded, kicking off at the Municipal Airport.
