Mr. Mauck's Musings
Monday is Labor Day and school will not be in session. We hope you may use this opportunity to have some quality family time and an enjoyable weekend. Congratulations to Brayden Giesler and Jolie Painter on their selection as Student and Staff of the Week. GJCS has partnered with ParentGuidance.org to provide free resources for parents as they navigate the issues which sometimes arise in young people's lives. There is information and the website linked below. Nurse Hutton and JHS were able to provide 19 units of blood product to help 57 patients in August. Thank you to all who gave. The Marching Wildcats will kick off their competiton season September 14th. You can see their show tonight at half time of the football game. The Wildcats will host Evansville Harrison in the newly renovated Alumni Stadium. The girls' golf team is in action on Tuesday. Volleyball will be at home twice next week and the boys' soccer team hosts Providence on Thursday. The rest of our events are on the road. JHS Preforming Arts Club will be preforming Guys and Dolls on November 14-17th. More information about tickets will be available closer to the shows date. Mrs. Burns hosts Java and Jargon book club on Wednesday mornings at 7:30. She is also accepting submissions to the arts magazine, The Paws. Submissions will be accepted for the duration of the school year. Bring in a hard copy to the library, or email a copy of your outstanding work to sburns@gjcs.k12.in.us.
JHS German Exchange Program still needs hosts for five boys coming from our partner school in Germany. The dates of their stay are September 23rd through October 11th. Exchange students need a bed (not necessarily their own room), food, and transportation to and from school. Please direct inquiries to Mr. Daniel Otto (dotto@gjcs.k12.in.us) and Mrs. Sandy Wehr (skwehr69@gmail.com)."
On Wednesday October 9th JHS will be participating in a school day SAT and PSAT testing day. Seniors and Juniors will either complete SAT Testing or Community Service or College Visit or Job Shadow. Students should have permission forms for their desired activities. All sophomores will be taking the PSAT and will be dismissed after PSAT with parent permission. Freshmen will participate in the Tour of Opportunity where they will visit the work place for careers of their choosing. More details will be available later.
There are a number of new community events included in that section of the newsletter. Take a second and look at the opportunities our community has to offer. Enjoy the long weekend and Go Cats.
