Reading Improvement AMI Day
January 16th, 2024
Optional Reading Activities:
Our AMI Learning Day Plan for today is below. We know AMI days can be difficult to manage, so we are including both computer-based and a non-technology option below. These options will help students practice reading skills while they are home today. Both Mrs. Klingenberg's and Mrs. Duddy's students can complete options available in this S'more newsletter.
Fun Reading Games:
Here are some fun games that can be independently played for literacy skill review.
Non-Technology Option:
Here is an option for multisensory syllable practice. Students will work on counting syllables, a foundational skill in phonemic awareness. We have also attached information and printable cards to play the game Boom! to practice sight words.
Other Fun Options for a Snow Day!
- Spend time reading aloud to your child today. This can be a picture book or even several chapters from a favorite chapter book.
- Have your child practice a favorite poem and work to recite it from memory. This is a great way to build fluency, too. Additionally, you can record the finished product and share it via social media with family and friends.
- Make cookies, a cake, or a fun recipe (slime, edible play dough) with your child. Have him or her read the recipe to you.
- Have a story hour where all family members can read quietly out of their book of choice while enjoying a favorite snack.
- Play a board game with your child that you haven't played in awhile. Have your child (when possible) read the directions for the game.
- For our younger readers - practice letters and sounds using shaving cream, hair gel or pudding on the kitchen table or a tupperware lid. This is a great way to add kinesthetic learning to the mix -- if you don't mind the mess :)
Here is a fun book and a great example of reading with fluency and expression!
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns as they arise. Enjoy your day!
Mrs. Klingenberg is available to help answer questions via email during the hours of 9:30-11:00 and 11:40-2:40. Please don't hesitate to reach out to her if your child needs help or has questions about any of today's activities. Mrs. Duddy is not available today, due to a personal appointment. Please direct any and all questions to Mrs. Klingenberg. :)
