What's New At Sunset Elementary?
Home of the Mighty Lions
May 5th, 2025
This week at Sunset Elementary was packed with meaningful events, celebrations, and student leadership! We held our final ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) meeting of the year — thank you to all the families who have participated and supported our English learners throughout the year.
Wednesday, we gathered as a school for a Behavior Expectation Assembly to review our PBIS expectations and reinforce the positive behaviors we want to see across campus. It was a great reminder of our shared values and how every student contributes to a safe and respectful learning environment.
We also celebrated Principal Appreciation Day and School Lunch Hero Day. I was humbled and deeply honored by the kind words and thoughtful gestures from our school community. I’m grateful to serve as the principal of such a caring and dedicated school. Our incredible Nutrition Services team was recognized for the love and hard work they bring to their roles every day — thank you, lunch heroes!
Kindergarten students had a fun and educational field trip to the San Diego Zoo, filled with hands-on learning and exploration. To top it all off, our Student Council presented an exciting proposal to Dr. Potter and members of the district cabinet: a schoolwide PBIS token economy to support positive behavior. Their leadership and creativity were on full display, and we’re so proud of their efforts!
Sunset continues to shine because of the incredible collaboration between students, staff, and families. Thank you for making this such a special week!
California Assessment Of Student Performance and Practice (CAASPP)
State testing season is here. Please encourage your child to use the practice materials provided by the California Department of Education, Practice Training Tests for Students. We recommend a good night's sleep and a balanced diet each day during the testing window. Remember that attendance is extremely important this time of year. Parent CAASPP Letter
