Meadowlark Messenger
August 11, 2023
Lark Community,
The 24-25 school year has arrived! It was so wonderful to connect at our Back to School Block Party. We hope your family left with lots of excitement for the year ahead. We know the beginning of the year is filled with lots of organization and new experiences for students and families and we want you to know that we are here as partners for a successful year. Please feel free to call or stop by our office anytime. You can also find important information on our webpage (updated regularly) and staff members outside daily to connect with at our morning and afternoon pick-up and drop-off. To get you started, below are some VERY IMPORTANT items to support you tomorrow:
School begins Monday, August 12th. Our school hours are 7:50-2:35, Monday-Friday
Please stop by the north lawn to enjoy some music, write a special wish for your child's year and visit with our PTO, hosting a Meadowlark Meet and Greet, 7:50 a.m.
DROP-OFF/PICK UP and the HUG and Go Lane: We are a walk-to school. We encourage students to walk, bike or scooter to school as the weather permits. If you will be driving, the HUG and GO LANE in the NORTH LOT is the most SAFE location for students to be dropped off and picked up. We encourage all families to utilize this space as the speeds are slower than surrounding roads. This lot has many available parking spaces, as well for those of you that want to walk your child to the door.
- Students may be dropped-off beginning at 7:40 a.m. (no earlier) at their grade level duty stations when staff supervision begins. Students arriving early will be asked to call home, as they would be unsupervised. Students are picked-up at the same location at 2:35.
- Cones will be labeled with each classroom teacher's name to designate daily drop-off/pick-up locations at the following doors:
1st Grade: Door 12
2nd Grade: Door 8
Wagner and Weins /Third Grade: Door 10
4th Grade: Door 13
5th Grade: Door 7
Arriving for Breakfast: Door 1 (Main Entry)
- Around the building there are only a few sections of parking, all other areas are NO PARKING ZONES and the Thornton PD will be visiting regularly to ensure all traffic laws are followed for our students safety. This includes along our South Parking Lot Entrance and Bus Lanes.
- Be patient with one another, safety is our number one goal and pick-up and drop-off are cleared within 10 minutes of our bells.
- Students must exit on the passenger side ONLY.
- Drivers MAY NOT exit the vehicle at ANY TIME.
- If your child is running late for afternoon pick-up you will be asked to loop around the parking lot, to allow traffic to continue to flow.
- Staff members will be on duty with bright yellow vests to support you and supervise students each day.
- Parking is also available in the main lot only for those families wanting to park and walk their child to their classrooms. There is no parking in the South Lot.
- A crosswalk is to be used when walking through the parking lot to the school. There are crosswalks at both ends of the hug and go lanes.
- There is parking available on the surrounding streets. Please be sure to look closely at parking signs and to be sure you are not parking within 20 feet of any crosswalk or 5 feet of any private driveways.
- Students are NOT ALLOWED to meet you in the parking lot. If you want to park, we ask you to pick-up your child and walk them through the lot. They are small and visibility is difficult in a busy lot. This is the expectation for all students K-5th Grade.
BREAKFAST/LUNCH:
- Free Breakfast will be served daily from 7:35 a.m. to 7:54. Students will enter through the main door and eat their breakfast in the cafeteria. They will then be released to their classrooms. Students attending may not bring their own breakfast.
- Free Lunch is served daily at grade level specific times. During this time we encourage students to relax, enjoy time with their peers while they enjoy a healthy lunch. Student monitors are available to support and ensure students have time to finish their meals. Students are dismissed to recess following lunch.
- Please bookmark this link for our school specific menu each month. A la carte items are available for purchase, but will not begin until the end of the week.
VISITORS:
- At Prairie Hills we value the opportunity for your partnership and look forward to visitors and volunteers. Specific information about volunteer opportunities will be shared by your teacher in the coming weeks.
- The office is open, please feel free to stop in with any questions. We look forward to getting to know you. Please remember that we use a secure vestibule entry system. All visitors are required to provide identification each time they enter the school, including our first day of school.
- For your convenience, there is a drop-off location in the vestibule if your child has forgotten an item (lunch, project, etc.. )at home. These items will be collected and delivered to students regularly throughout the day.
- To continue a safe, clean and spacious environment for students lunch, we do not have visitors during our lunch periods, however, you are always welcome to pick-up your child for a special lunch.
COMMUNICATION:
- We are committed to clear and ongoing communication and partnership with our Lark families. Along with regular newsletters from our classroom teachers, you will find administrators outside each morning greeting students and as they leave for the day. We look forward to meeting you! Up-to-date and additional information is available on our webpage, which includes a current calendar, school handbook, supply lists, a link to our monthly school newsletter and grade level specific information including learning links.
